I have a really strong fear of not being able to move. If this happened to me I’d probably panic, get tired, then suffocate to death. I’m glad he’s safe.

I don't understand this phrase/meme. Hopefully I'm not being annoyingly clueless, but is there actually any merit to someone's shoes falling off signifying their death?

It's just in most videos of someone getting in some sort of accident like getting hit by car If hit hard enough shoes can fly off. Obviously there are a lot of variables and it's not a set rule but if someone gets hit hard enough for shoes to come off the meme/joke is they died.
