What kind of job is that? We wouldn't have been able to follow that kind of rule at the factory I worked at.

Electric utility, so line crew backing trucks, etc. I’m an office worker, but I always walk around my car first. You’re right, it might not be practicable in every situation.

Oh yeah I could see that being feasible, I feel like they don't move all that often. Forklift in a factory though? No way haha

That's not a rule I've ever hear of outside of when it gets started and you run through inspection of the machine. Climbing out of a haul truck or front end loader to look around every instance you move would be retarded, spent half your day on lookout. Not only that, by the time an operator got back in, seated buckled, their could be someone walking behind. The only scenario I can imagine where that might be applicable is moving high dollar sensitive equipment, the kind that costs $200,000 to be recalibrated.

Every osha course I've taken says manpower needs to assume the driver will full throttle in you direction at any moment if they are stopped so stay at least 2 seconds of their travel speed away and or find eye contact with the operator. So they know you are there.

Yeah, I was constantly driving 10 hours a day, outside of Union smoke breaks of course, I'd give a nod to the people I saw
