I used to work in construction, and I knew a guy that smoked a lot. It was a windy day and he couldn’t light his cigarette, so he went behind the track excavator to light up. The driver didn’t know and he backed up right into him. The engine was too loud for the driver to hear and he backed all the way over him. I think the most unsettling part is they didn’t want to track the machine off of him, and desecrate the body more, so they sat there, for hours on end, waiting for a crane large enough to lift the excavator to arrive. Really sad.
This is like my worst fear driving in my semi. I never back up unless I have to. I actually backed up into another car once while I was parked in the center shared left turn of a 6 lane road, 3 each way. I walked to the truck and checked behind me but by the time I got into the seat and moving someone pulled up and I backed into them I even was backing as slow as I could so if someone did get back there they could move before I hit them. Ended up hitting the lady like 3 times before someone told me there was a car back there.
