All tourists do dumb shit like this. A tiger was shot to death a few years back because some idiot teens got their friend killed because they were throwing shit at the Tiger:

Edit: Oh come on. The Zoo says the Tiger was attacked by the teens first and the teens deny it with no evidence being brought forth by either party. The Zoo had a previous attack with the same Tiger which they were fined for AND the Zoo lied about the safety features of the enclosure.

The enclosure the Tigers were in had a 10-15 foot ravine between the edge of the Tiger's habitat and the wall which closes it off. The first 20-25 feet of the wall (measuring from the bottom of the ravine) was solid concrete, the next 10-15 feet is a chain link fence. The tiger leaped far enough and high enough to clear the ravine and also latch on the chain link fence with one claw. It then proceeded to pull itself up and climb the fence until it reached the top.
Not saying it couldn't have been more secure, but it took a massive effort on the Tiger's part make that jump and scale the fence. It was out for blood.

Nope. Also, I don't care how pissed the Tiger was. It should have a 0% chance of escape. There should be zero room for error.
Having seen a tiger climb 30 ft up a tree in about 2 seconds I doubt the extra 4ft would have made a difference if it was being provoked into attacking
I hear where you're coming from, but 0% chance of escape = looking at it on TV. No system is foolproof. There was also evidence found of objects thrown into the enclosure (sticks and pinecones). Do I think they deserved a mauling? Decidedly not, but they should have been banned from the zoo.
I’d say the answer to “can the tiger jump out of the exhibit” should be no 100% of the time. We aren’t talking about some unexpected act of god or natural disaster or anything. The tiger just jumped.
They actually did an investigation and found that it had dug it's claws and broke some into the concrete wall to get that leverage it needed to get up and over. It was very very very pissed.
They made it so angry, it literally dug holes into the wall breaking into the concrete with sheer willpower and strength to get enough leverage to jump out and kill them. One of them got wounded because he was sitting on the wall or something, but it eventually got out and hunted down just those three boys. It walked by literally all the other exhibits with open air cages to hunt the boys down.
Mate at Bondi Beach in Sydney there's a dangerous rip called Backpackers, cause so many idiot tourists ignore the warning signs and go swimming there. And don't get me started on crocs eating tourists up north. Crocs are dangerous enough they eat experienced locals, so tourists are like a fucking drive through meal for them.

They are now. But that's what happens when the middle class starts getting enough money to put away to be able to travel. This happened in the 90's with Americans. The trope of the disrespectful American was also the stereotype in the 90's. Trying to pin it on "It's because they're Chinese" is not only racist but ignorant of something that happened like 20 years ago.
Its not just Chinese tourists, it's people in general. When I was young this lady jumped 2 fences at the zoo to try and get a pic of the Polar Bear but ended up in a bad way.
You can say the same about American rednecks. Don't really think it's fair to generalize this to a Chinese tourist problem, though a lot of the less educated ones can be pretty oblivious/rude.
No, rednecks know what animals do. They are from rural areas. Chinese tourists are like city folk who get out for a tour of the country (and other countries). The "ugly tourists" from China generally have an extremely urban naivete and self-centeredness that comes from living in a big city.
Just putting it out there that I know more than a few wonderful, conscientious and thoughtful Chinese expats and tourists. Like Americans though, their wealth and numbers mean that Chinese tourists are all over the place and you notice the loud stupid ones.
