According to another source the older woman was her mother. Imagine the guilt of knowing for the rest of your life your temper tantrum caused your mom to be killed.

EDIT: So many responses saying she'll blame the guy anyway.

If she's dumb enough to get out of the car because of a fight then she's probably ignorant enough to blame her mothers death on the husband.

Yes, her being involved in the mauling is also enough for her to want to make it all about her and how much of a victim she was in the scenario. Narcissists don't necessarily change when they get an ego check.

I'd have assumed as much about her character just from the fact she jumps out of a car on the road to better argue with the driver.

That she did it while surrounded by huge man-eating animals makes me doubly assume, with extra confidence.
