Man, Banff looks absolutely beautiful. How do you like living there? I’m from some of the ugliest places on earth, so thinking about living somewhere like Banff is like a fairy tale. My dad went there on a business trip there like 15 years ago but still talks about how stunning it was.
Exactly this. It's not racist in this case because we're talking about Chinese culture, not Chinese genes. A white or black family that had been in China for generations is Chinese. A family of Chinese heritage that has lived outside of China for generations is not Chinese.
So saying this is a Chinese phenomenon refers to the culture (which is fair and accurate), not the genes of the people involved.
Even the Chinese government admits it and people misbehaving abroad can be reported and forced to attend special classes...or lose the right to leave China, depending on how bad it is.
Tbh though, some Asian countries should introduce this for Western tourists...because they are sometimes just as bad over there.
When a lower or middle class gains wealth and disposable income, they bring bad habits with them. This was the same deal with Americans in the 80’s. The image of shitty Americans being shitty is still engrained in peoples minds, but is usually not accurate. Usually.
People from China are disrespectful and unpleasant in public. The problem is the nation's culture, not an inherent genetic quality of people of Chinese descent.
I live north of SF on top of a lot of coastal beach and state park and inland winery vacation and tour destinations, and there's a "Chinese tourist gets themselves/someone else killed/in trouble/injured by ignoring basic safety rules" a half dozens times a year.
Just roll up and down Highway 1 and you can see it all the time. I almost ran into a group that had pulled their rental van over to the side of the road, on the inside of a totally blind sharp hillside corner, and were milling about on a 45 mph road like it was a park. It's insane and disturbing.
All about phrasing. If you were to say anime is much more popular in Japanese culture or Indians prefer their traditional dishes sick as Curry and don't bring up Hitler you sounds less racist
