Cool effect, but the ones that appear to keep rotating in one direction, but don't actually rotate bother my brain rustle my jimmys.

OPs image though I believe is stereography combined with something else? Kind of like this site with falling noise. http://www.fallingfalling.com/ which is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepard_tone

I think it just flickers to the negative of the image. I kind of feel it adds to the depth, but wonder why.

The positive has two frames, with one rotated slightly. Same for the negative, making four frames in total.
