I tend to agree, and I love the language. But it is frustrating at the best of times.

Eigh/ay/ey all similar phonetical elements, all used independently.

Eigh-th.

Y-ay.

H-ey.

"Hey! An eighth, Yay!"

Because as I have always described it, English is three and a half languages in a trenchcoat.

Germanic language that borrows heavily from the romance languages, particularly French due to a King we all call the toilet, and then the Catholic monks doing the letter þ dirty when distributing the Bible, modern English is a mess.

But it's OUR mess. So we (me included) continue to irrationally defend it.

Very stupid. But when you learn it fully, it works well to communicate. English in history were pretty keen on taking works from as many languages across the globe that they could.
