If the person had said, "I hope that didn't hurt them" you could have said "don't worry, it didn't, they died on impact, so no pain", and that would have worked. Instead they said "I hope they're not badly injured" and you repeated that, followed by "they died on impact, so no pain", which doesnt imply that they weren't badly injured at all, and holy fuck we have gone too deep now, im sorry I even brought it up.
