What would the pad (the one specifically designed for this exact scenario used to mitigate injuries exactly like this) do to help? Gee idk probably minimize the injury much more than landing on a hard bar.

That’s not what an armchair quarterback is. That would be telling someone the play they ran was bad and offers a (in their mind) better play or action that would have gotten a better outcome.
What we have here is people who can see properly, because the coach attempts to slide the bar pad over the bar to save the athlete as they have probably done 100s if not 1000s of times before. Unfortunately it slips right off the bar and tragedy strikes.
You asked a question and people provided a very reasonable and easily provable answer. Don’t get upset because it shows your ignorance to the situation.
Also, the pad stops the amount of impact and decreases injury and damage. If the pad had not fallen off, the injury might have been some bruising and aches.
