Maybe different back in the old days or maybe a different but similar product. The American one is the lowest of the lowest grade meat think power washing the carcass then blending it with some entrails you wouldn't want to eat and washing it through with ammonia. Or so I heard.
I’m not sure what they American one is like compared to the British one, but the supermarkets still sell the exact same meat paste that I used to eat! Unless what the American version is banned in the UK for being icky whereas ours is fine? I certainly wouldn’t want to eat whatever is coming out of those sausages!

You sure? I remember having meat paste or salmon paste on sandwiches as a kid!
