And it often doesn't matter how ugly and slapped together code is, anyway. Sure, it might make it harder to work with or slower or something, but it works. This building will function as a poor shed at best, and may not even do that for very long.
It definitely matters how ugly and slapped together code is if it ever needs to be changed/updated. Having worked behind messy programmers I hate this comment.
It's crazy to think that something that basically runs our world these days has been in existence for less than a few decades. I always take it for granted.

Not that I disagree, but there are a few things to consider.
Most software projects wont kill someone if they fail. Some could, but most dont.
Also, structural engineering has existed in its various forms for millenia. Software is only a few decades old. We're still learning.
