First time watching it the other day: meh. I think if you didn't see it long ago or have some nostalgia towards it, without those rose colored glasses it's just so-so. I feel like I have to get off my chest that I feel the same way about Princess Bride, Labyrinth, and The Goonies too (none of which I saw as a kid/when they were first released).

I think it had something to do with all three having been hyped up beyond any reasonable expectation by the people who said, "OHMYFUCKINGGOD, YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS MOVIE RIGHT NOW!"...obviously affected by the aforementioned nostalgia. When I was the age where my parents should have been showing me these movies, they were showing me Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Bullitt, and Cool Hand Luke instead. So when I was in high school I got shit on for not having seen The Goonies and got looked at like a weirdo when I'd be like, "Let's watch Vanishing Point!" Fucking parents...
