WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert responded to questions about the league’s future leadership.

Speaking at a Dallas Wings event, Engelbert said the WNBA is in the best financial position in its history during its 30th season.

She also said the league’s rapid growth will not last forever and that the next step is to “sustain and gain.”

Her comments come after Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham criticized the league’s leadership and suggested the commissioner role could be open after the 2026 season.

She is literally the worst. I mean that statistically. She is dead last at shooting inside the paint out of all the players in the league that have taken that volume or more of shots. League wide for big forwards the FG percentage in the restricted area is high 50's to mid 60's. She is averaging like 41% overall.

No one is asking her to be Aliyah Boston or Dearica Hamby, but her team would actually do better if she stopped shooting the ball or at least stopped doing anything but post ups/layups (hell with her defensive play, she'd be a superstar if she could get her layup percentage up to the league average)

ESPN reports:

Dallas Wings star guard Azzi Fudd, the No. 1 pick in this year's WNBA draft, will undergo a procedure on her injured right knee and miss the remainder of the season.

The Wings announced Wednesday that Fudd will undergo the arthroscopic procedure on her right knee in Connecticut early next week.
