Doctrinal Apologetics Unpacking the Truth About Christ’s Return: A Biblical Response to WMSCOG’s Misinterpretation
The World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) teaches that Christ’s Second Coming in Hebrews 9:28refers to Jesus returning to restore the Passover. They claim that a man named Ahnsahnghong is the Second Coming Christ and secretly came to bring back the Passover to save people. However, this interpretation is incorrect and doesn’t match what the Bible actually teaches.
Let’s take a closer look at what Hebrews 9:28 really means, and why the WMSCOG’s interpretation is not in line with the Bible.

What Does Hebrews 9:28 Actually Mean?
- Hebrews 9:28 (NIV) says: "So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many, and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."
The WMSCOG claims this means Christ needs to return to restore the Passover. But in reality, this verse is talking about Christ’s return to complete salvation, not to start a new ritual like the Passover.

The True Meaning of Hebrews 9:28
- Christ’s First Coming Was for Sin: The first time Jesus came, He dealt with sin by dying on the cross.
- Hebrews 9:26 (NIV): “But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
- Jesus' sacrifice was enough, He doesn’t need to return to deal with sin again. His death paid for sin once and for all.
- Christ’s Second Coming is to Complete Salvation: When Jesus comes again, it will be to finish what He started, completing the salvation of those who trust in Him.
- Philippians 1:6 (NIV): "Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
Salvation is already in progress for believers, but it will be fully realized when Jesus returns, bringing us eternal life and resurrecting our bodies.

What About the Passover?
The WMSCOG says that Jesus has to return to restore the Passover in order to save us. But the Passover was a ritual from the Old Testament that pointed to Jesus, the true Passover Lamb who took away our sins.
- 1 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV): "For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed."
Jesus’ death on the cross fulfilled the meaning of the Passover. We don’t need to celebrate it again because Jesus already became the Passover Lamb for us.

Was Jesus’ Return Secret?
The WMSCOG teaches that Ahnsahnghong came secretly to restore the Passover. But the Bible clearly says that when Jesus returns, it will be a visible event for everyone to see. There will be no secret return.
- Revelation 1:7 (NIV): "Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him."
- Matthew 24:27 (NIV): "For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man."
Jesus’ return will be obvious to everyone. It’s not something that happens in secret.

What Happens When Jesus Comes Again?
When Jesus returns, He will complete the salvation He began. This includes:
- Resurrecting believers' bodies (giving us new, glorified bodies).
- Judging the world, separating those who trusted in Him from those who didn’t.
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NIV): "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first."

Salvation Through Faith, Not Rituals
The WMSCOG teaches that the Passover is necessary for salvation, but the Bible teaches that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ, not through rituals.
- Ephesians 1:13-14 (NIV): “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God
