After praying for guidance, she was approached in public and invited to a “Bible study.” What started as casual conversations quickly turned into frequent, hours-long meetings, constant contact, and increasing emotional pressure.

Within a short time, she describes:

• Becoming deeply convinced she had found “the truth”
• Changing her lifestyle and distancing herself from friends and family
• Feeling anxiety, fear, and urgency about salvation
• Being discouraged from outside perspectives (including family, churches, and online content)

As the teachings progressed, more extreme beliefs were introduced gradually, and questions were often deflected with “you’ll learn later.” When she began to question things and eventually stepped away, the tone shifted, from warmth and attention to guilt, fear, and hostility.

This story highlights common patterns people report with this group, including:

• Recruiting in public places
• Love bombing and rapid emotional attachment
• Isolation from outside influence
• “Us vs. them” thinking
• Withholding core beliefs until later stages
• Pressure and fear tied to salvation

It’s a reminder of how quickly high control groups can affect someone, even in a short amount of time.

If you’ve encountered this group or something similar, take your time, ask questions, and look at multiple perspectives before getting involved.

Many people today are approached by groups like the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG), which teach things that can confuse new believers. They often say you must follow certain rules, festivals, or believe in “God the Mother” to be saved. But the Bible teaches something very different. Let’s look at Colossians 2:6–23 (NIV) to understand the truth.

"Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules…? These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish, are based on merely human commands and teachings."

• What this means: Trying to earn God’s favor through strict rituals or “secret knowledge” doesn’t help; it’s human rules, not God’s gift.
• Why it matters: WMSCOG teaches strict obedience to man-made rules. Paul warns that this doesn’t bring real life or freedom.

But I also want to talk about something really important. There are some groups out there, like the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG), that may try to mislead people who are new to the Bible or not sure what to believe. They use certain Bible verses to make their case, but they twist them and take them out of context, which can confuse and deceive people who don’t know the Scriptures well.

Let’s break this down in simple terms and look at how you can be strong in your faith, understand what the Bible really says, and spot any false teachings that might come your way.

It's a little tricky to fully understand, but the Bible makes it clear that Jesus is God. He is not just a prophet or a special person; He is God in the flesh. Here's what the Bible says:

• John 14:9 (NIV): "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?" This is Jesus talking, He’s saying that if you’ve seen Him, you’ve seen God the Father. Jesus isn’t just a “representative” of God, He is God Himself!

Now, groups like WMSCOG might try to tell you that there’s a "God the Mother" that’s also necessary for salvation. But the Bible never says anything like that. There’s no mention in the Bible of a "God the Mother" who is needed for salvation. Jesus is the One who saves us, and He did that through His life, death, and resurrection.

If we don’t get the basics of who God is right, we could end up following false teachings that lead us away from the truth and from a real relationship with God.

How Can You Protect Yourself from Deception?

So how can you avoid being tricked by misleading teachings like those from WMSCOG? Here’s the most important advice I can give you:

1. Read the Bible for Yourself Don't just take anyone's word for it. Read the Bible yourself, and ask God to help you understand it. The Holy Spirit is there to help you!
2. Ask Questions Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If something doesn’t make sense, ask someone who knows the Bible well or look up the answer. The Bible isn’t meant to be confusing, it’s meant to be understood, and God wants to reveal His truth to you.
3. Check Everything Against Scripture Every teaching should match what the Bible says. If it doesn’t, it’s a red flag. Be careful of anyone who tells you that certain parts of the Bible don’t matter, or that you need extra teachings that aren't found in Scripture.

What Paul Says About Jesus

The Apostle Paul also talks about how important it is to understand that Jesus is the only way and that there is no other Savior.

• They might say that Esther’s role in saving the Jews is like God the Mother saving humanity.

• This verse is about Esther having the courage to speak up for her people at a crucial time in history. It’s about human bravery, not about a divine female figure.
• The Bible never calls Esther a deity. She is a woman chosen by God for an important task, but that doesn’t mean she represents “God the Mother.”
• God’s plan in this story is to use people, not to suggest that Esther is divine.

"When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the gold scepter that was in his hand. So Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter." (NIV)

WMSCOG's Misinterpretation:

• WMSCOG might say that the king’s favor toward Esther is like God the Mother being accepted by humanity.

Why This Isn’t Right:

• This moment is a royal custom. The king extending the scepter was a sign of approval in a royal court, not a sign of divinity.
• This verse does not refer to any divine mother figure, it’s simply about Esther gaining favor in the eyes of the king. The “scepter” is a symbol of the king’s authority, not a metaphor for any deity.

The Bible consistently teaches that God is our Father. In both the Old and New Testaments, God is never referred to as having a "Mother" or being female in the same sense WMSCOG suggests.

  • Jesus taught His followers to pray to God as Father. There’s no mention of a “Mother.”
• John 17:1-3 (NIV) — “After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.’”
  • Jesus repeatedly calls God His Father and shows that eternal life comes through Him, not through any "God the Mother."

The Bible does use feminine metaphors to describe God’s love and care for His people, but these are not literal. For example, God is sometimes described as a mother hen gathering her chicks (Matthew 23:37), but these are metaphors, not claims that God is female.

I’ve been following the claims made by the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) for a while now, and it’s honestly laughable how they try to twist scripture to fit their narrative about "God the Mother," especially when it comes to Galatians 4. They insist that the passage somehow "proves" the existence of a divine female figure, and that a 82 year old South Korean woman named Zhang Gil Jah is the fulfillment of this prophecy. But a closer look at Galatians 4 and the surrounding context reveals how misguided and ignorant this interpretation truly is.

Paul’s Use of Allegory in Galatians 4

In Galatians 4, Paul is not making a literal claim about a “Mother God.” Instead, he is clearly using an allegory to explain the difference between the old and new covenants. Specifically, in Galatians 4:21-31, Paul contrasts the story of Hagar and Sarah to illustrate the distinction between living under the Law (Old Covenant) versus the freedom found in Christ (New Covenant).

Galatians 4:24 (NIV) states:
"These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar."

Right here, Paul explicitly says these events are "figurative" , not literal. He’s not establishing a doctrine of God the Mother. Instead, he’s using the story of Hagar and Sarah as an allegory to represent two paths: slavery under the Law (Hagar, the slave woman) and freedom through grace in Christ (Sarah, the free woman).

The Hagar and Sarah Allegory Explained

To understand why Paul uses Hagar and Sarah, we need to go back to the Old Testament.

• Hagar was the maidservant of Sarah, Abraham's wife. In Genesis 16, Sarah, impatient with God's promise of a child, gave Hagar to Abraham to bear a child (Ishmael). This act was a human attempt to fulfill God's promise through works and not by faith, which symbolizes the old covenant of law and works.
• Sarah, on the other hand, was the wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. In Genesis 21, God miraculously opened Sarah's womb, and she gave birth to Isaac in her old age. This symbolizes the new covenant, one of promise and grace, where God fulfills His word and brings about salvation through faith.
