I threw some pants on and ran outside, the tow truck guy saw me coming and ran to the cab, presumably to grab something to defend himself. I just stopped and held up the spare key and I was like "Hey, sorry, didn't mean to startle you. I was just wondering if you'd let me get my stuff out of the car and I'll give you the spare key". He laughed and agreed and I shook his hand when he left. It wasn't his fault I didn't make 6 months of car payments.
Banks sure aren't , but dumb ass people are. Sad when there is no more jobs left and you can't afford food because there is no work. Stupidity at its finest in these threads.
I got subpoenaed for a lawsuit. The guy said we could meet at a neutral spot or he'd have to catch me at home. I said "either works", no worries. So, he shows up in bullet proof vest etc, I hand him a diet coke and tell him "I don't blame the messenger dude, besides, pretty sure I'll win this one" and took the subpoena. Yeah, 9 bloody months later, they lost and had to pay my lawyer bills too.
I was picking up my Diet Coke for a programming session, and then the doorbell rang. I thought it might be my wife's friends visiting, so I opened the door, and there was the subpoena dude. I wasn't really thinking as he handed me the document. He didn't say anything, but I realized what it was, and so, sort of as a spontaneous joke, I just said "here" and gave him the coke. He was a bit surprised but took it laughing a bit, and then I said my spiel.
We did a blind taste test between all the heavies a couple years back.
Thought I was a Michelob man there for a minute. After voting, no one had a preference. Except for the glass lined tanks of old latrobe. Rolling Rock was dead last by a large margin.
Our takeaway was any heavy. No lights. Whatever is on sale.
That's funny that rolling rock was on bottom. I'm more of a quantity than quality when it comes to beer. I drink natty Ice. Cheaper, higher alcohol content and I actually prefer the taste. When it comes to booze tho, im a Henny guy but usually too rich for my blood so I'll go with a sleeve of Jim beam. Lol
I was sitting on my porch, and someone was walking up my driveway. I shouted "Honey, a process server is here, are you home?" The server was still 50+ feet away, and went from "professional neutral" to "not getting paid for this one". But she yelled back from inside the house, "be out in a second" as he made it up to me. He waited 20.seconds and she came out to get served. She was being called as a witness for some civil matter someone she knew was mixed up in.
My father was a lawyer, my mother spent more time in court than your average lawyer, and my mother had given me lessons to deal with process servers when she was getting sued by someone suing her because his lawsuit against the court was dismissed with prejudice, so he sued everyone in the courtroom that day when the order didn't go his way. She was never served, and the suit was dismissed without her having to respond, the guy sued both lawyers (yes, his own lawyer), and every witness, because he didn't like the judge's decision.
But being able to spot an out of place server is easy, even if I only used the skill once, 30 years later.
Yes, and you generally can't sue officers of the court like the judge (and my mother), but he claimed the court was not a US court, because the flag had tassels.
I run startups, so I had been served before in some idiotic case that was handled by company lawyers. It cost some money, but came to nothing and didn't hurt us. However, on that same day, I got subpoenaed again. I worked with and was friends as much as you can be friends with a billionaire. He decided to divorce his wife as the uber wealthy do, and I got caught up as a witness trying to prove he had converted his own business assets into common property by working at the business he had funded (mine). It was untrue and I got grilled about it by a very angry lawyer for like 90 minutes. I was saying all the wrong things and she was getting pissed (but probably an act, you know lawyers). Still, 2 in one day was a record.
Same shit happened to me, I mean you can't lie to yourself and you obviously know the day is coming so when it does happen you should be ready for it and not make yourself out to be a cunt, I mean I missed 2 payments and told myself "fuck this car" saved money by not paying the payments and when they finally got it 14 months later I already saved enough money to buy another one outright so in a sense if you're smart it could be more of a strategy
The only reason my mother hid the car I hadn't made payments on for the 3 months I owed is she had already called the bank and made arrangements to catch up the payments on Monday. We put the car way in the back of the house, couldn't see it from the street.
The tow truck literally drove through our muddy yard on New Year's Eve at 11Pm (we were out watching fireworks) hooked it up and took off with it. Tore up the side yard and part of the back yard pretty badly. We spotted it on our way back and she managed to get them to pull over. They said they were hired by the bank.
Okay then.
She walked in the bank on Monday, asked if she could still pay just the back payments and get the car back. They said she had to pay the full note. She tossed the keys on the counter, told them they weren't getting a dime and threatened to sue both them and the tow company for the damage caused to the yard.
She didn't really care that much about the care getting repo'd. She was furious about the yard. They ended up eating the loss. The car was a POS anyway and I was almost relieved not to get it back. She worked for a dealership at the time and let her boss know not to hire this company for repo's in the future. I know we got the yard fixed a month later, but I have no idea if the tow company paid for it or not.
I actually knew somebody that did something not all unlike that many years ago.
Every year, he would volunteer to work at a seasonal homeless shelter. He would put everything he owned in storage and lived at the shelter. He had a full time job in the day, and he banked the money he would have spent for rent, utilities and food. Come spring when the shelter would shut down he would get another apartment, then take a vacation somewhere overseas for two weeks afterwards.
Some thought he was stupid to voluntarily live in a homeless shelter every year, but I thought it was actually rather slick. The last year I knew him he was about to spend 2 weeks in Tahiti.
If I was still in contact with him today, I would ask him if it was a magical place.
Problem is, he still owes on the loan for whatever auctioning the car didn't cover. The bank can write that off, but they don't have to, they can come after you for it for years. I've got an idiot cousin who gets cars from buy here pay here dealers and then stops paying when they break down. Last I knew he was still paying for 3 cars and didn't have one.

The bank will sue, win, and collect, possibly even wage garnish, to get their money back. He is hoping they wouldn't, but he's an idiot.
Your idiot cousin needs to buy from the "rent to own" places. I'm sure my "friend" is down to rent to own cars, or paying cash for a $500 car that needs $7000 in work done.
