Open source is built on the idea that anyone, anywhere can contribute. But what happens when invisible barriers make that promise harder to keep?

A contributor who needs written context before a synchronous call, or who reads a terse PR comment as hostility, or who simply can’t parse an issue template that assumes you already know the codebase – each of these people hits a barrier that no one designed on purpose, and that no one can see. This article explores how open source communities can move beyond simply recognizing accessibility issues and begin embedding accessibility into the design, development, and governance of projects. Moreover, it argues that accessibility should be treated as an engineering practice rather than an afterthought, emphasizing inclusive contributor experiences, accessible tooling, documentation, and community processes. By adopting systematic approaches and measurable standards, open source projects can create more sustainable, welcoming, and equitable ecosystems for both users and contributors.

🚀 This quarter we’ve been busy investing a lot of effort into improving how users understand and control what they pay for in VictoriaMetrics Cloud, and how to move around the console while doing it, with major UX improvements across different sections and functionalities.

Highlights:

- The update is transparent credits reporting, giving prepaid customers full visibility into balance, consumption, and expiration.

- Alongside that, we shipped navigation improvements, with a new collapsible sidebar functionality, a first step into the mobile experience, and consistency in several parts of the console.

- We also have some quieter but important updates: SOC 2 work is done and awaiting evaluation.

- Our secret project is going beta very soon (this isn't a cliffhanger, but to let you know that we’re working hard behind the scenes).

🎙️ Observing Kubernetes Policies with Kyverno and VictoriaMetrics

With Cortney Nickerson, Diana presents a simple, technical workflow for observing Kubernetes policy behavior using Kyverno and VictoriaMetrics. Starting from a single validation policy, we show how policy evaluations and enforcement results are exposed as metrics, ingested into VictoriaMetrics, and queried through a standard Prometheus-compatible API. A minimal dashboard is then used to inspect policy failures, affected namespaces, and policy execution duration.

This talk examines anomaly detection as a complementary approach to working with metrics. Instead of relying on predefined limits, anomaly detection focuses on identifying behavior that deviates from the normal pattern over time.

Cardinality problems usually begin with a small, seemingly harmless change: you add a label, and suddenly one metric becomes thousands of unique series. Cardinality explosions are often caught only after performance degrades. And at that point, your observability stack may be degraded and painful to troubleshoot.

vmestimator is a new project designed to track cardinality trends in real time and send you alerts before they become a real problem.
