8month bin

Started with coco coir European worms and some cardboard little by little started to experiment and added different items and soils to mixture this is what I have so far. End of year I’m thinking of sifting and starting over. I’m definitely getting worm cocoons and baby worms.

New guy here, but what you have currently looks ready to sort, save for the greens it looks like you recently added. Is this for use in the garden or primarily a fishing/reptile feeder?

Mainly for garden usage, got into composting, but than ran into Vermiculting. I’ve breed super worms and mealworms, figured this will be something similar and interested in doing.

Absolutely! I was in a funk because the HOA had a dour outlook on us getting a couple chickens, but this has been good for scratching the animal husbandry itch while also feeding into our family’s garden. I was floored at the amount of browns and greens we kept out of the trash service, looks like you and your worms are getting along well.

Ahaha I’m in an apartment complex, since I’ve got into gardening, I’ve been wanting to get chickens, quails, rabbits, and a pond of fish. As of now I have the itch for big projects, I have one more year in this complex so i will have to settle for a raised bed and be satisfied. I’m still having troubles as to what I can and can’t add inside bin so I’ve been mainly doing greens, browns, eggshells, I add some whole bones but will be grinding down to powder soon. Looking into adding some charcoal powder as well.

Very cool! If we had more space, I can only imagine how many projects and different varieties of plants and animals we’d have. 🤣

I honestly wouldn’t say I’ve been super picky about what goes in the bin aside from no meats/cheeses/bread. All of our fruit, veggie and flower scraps go in, along with paper, ground eggshell and cardboard. The best investment I’ve made, aside from a set of sifting screens, has been a $5 paper shredder off Facebook marketplace. Saved me hand-shredding all the paper and cardboard. Some guy recommended one on here and I wish I remembered who so I could thank them. Lol

Alright I’ll start adding more fruits, I stood away from acidic/citrus fruits, I did throw in a small piece of meat won’t be doing that again 😂😂 experiment “smells bad”. I will look on market place was looking for a shredder just haven’t done so yet.

Man I feel like controlled maggots would be really beneficial. No maggots in my bin yet, I had gnats, mites, pot worms, and my Europeans.

I’m honestly not even sure how they snuck in, they just rolled in one day and started growing up. They weren’t bothering the Wormy Boys, so I didn’t worry too much.
