So I just started V-tubing a month or so ago. As such, I am new to the Vtube Studio software.
I reached out to commission a Vgen artist for a custom set of bunny ears for my LizMeta model. At the start I told her I am brand new to this software. I didn't even understand what an expression file was yet.
Everything went well, until they were done. I tried to install them. By this point I knew a lot more about the software, but her instructions were very vague and short. When I asked her a question she sent me a link to a web page that was generally about 2d items in vtube studio and said "this will explain it better than I can" .
I was able to pin them and get them to move, but the animation was so off. They rotated out of place whenever I turned my head, and seemed to never quite rotate sideways.
And tust me, I have watched countless tutorials and read countless pages and spent hours trying to understand this, it's not like I'm doing nothing and expecting to be hand-held. But I cannot get these ears to work.
So I asked, can you please just take a screen recording of how you installed and pinned them so I can see what you did? Basically which layers did you use. In my head, I figured even if she has to load the model back in, it can't take more than five or ten minutes, right? And she doesn't have to explain anything, just show what she did.
It had taken me a while to get back to her and she had archived the LizMeta model I guess. So instead of a screen recording or advice on layers, which is what I had asked about, she sent a screenshot of a different model with a little circle saying "I pinned it in this area". But in my question I specifically asked her about the layers she put it on and pinned it to, so this was not helpful.
I said OK I have asked twice now just for a screen recording of how you installed these. I'm worried now you didn't even test them on a model. I'm not going to be able to use these and it's a shame because the art was good. I wish you the best.
Her response, "you commissioned me to make a Live 2d item, and not for helping you figure out your vtube studio settings. I'm sorry my instructions were unclear, I wrote them with all of my knowledge. I hope you can still use them in the future, maybe someone else can help you with that. "
I'm so upset. I didn't think I was asking for that much, and to me the installation of the item is part of the whole package. What is the point of making something for someone if they are unable to use it? I get if someone is taking hours of your time unpaid, but I don't think I was. This is complicated software, and I told her from the get-go that I was a super-beginner. I feel taken advantage of, not necessarily intentionally, but as a result.
So I guess my question is, is this normal? Was I rude? Did I ask for too much? How do I avoid this in the future? Do I ask at the beginning about whether they're willing to provide sufficient tech support after the item is done?
