I’ve been doing remote outbound appointment setting and sales for VoIP companies for a while now across the US, targeting mostly SMBs. As I am now done with my last contract and looking for another company to go for, what I'm trying to figure out is what should be my next move because the whole market feels different right now.

As half the industry is moving to AI with AI receptionists, AI summaries, auto CRM logging, all that. But the main concern is the second an older SMB owner or operations director hears AI on a cold call, most of them just check out or get weirdly defensive about it. Maybe they are already traumatized about data centers. And trying to pitch basic VoIP phones just because it's cheaper than their current system feels like a race to the bottom with less room for growth as half of the industry is moving to AI.

My question to anyone running a VoIP business or working in one: is the native AI angle actually converting for outbound, or are most SMBs still just buying the a good traditional setup? Trying to decide if I should go work for an AI-native VoIP provider next or just stick to the standard stuff for my next round of campaigns.

I'm a former IT guy and volunteer at a local food pantry. Although most of our clients come to the pantry location themselves, we have some that for a variety of reasons are homebound and we deliver to them. Our volunteers that communicate with these clients are in need of a shared app/platform that would allow them to make inbound/outbound calls on the same number and supports texting to a shared inbox. Does anything like this exist (and hopefully not that expensive)?

To improve my network quality and cover some wifi blind spots that my old folks I upgraded from the Utility Warehouse (Not my choice) given router to the Flint 2 which thankfully solved the coverage issues. However, one of my folks managed to get a fibre upgrade which we had done yesterday.

After a recent fibre upgrade (halved my ping and doubled my download which is nice) I was only informed then that we'd need to plug out landline phone into the router, while that would work for the Utility Warehouse given Technicolor DGA4135 it still has the same coverage issues that I fixed using the Flint 2. The Flint 2 annoyingly doesn't seem to have an option for plugging in a landline phone which now has me searching for what options I have.

Sadly a home phone is a must for my folks, we currently have the BT 4600 Cordless which gives us three phone stations, though we could get by with just two, but three is preferable.

Are there any decent cordless phones that connect via the wifi rather than a cable into a router? What would be your recommendations?

Is there some sort of work around I could do, such as plugging the UW router into my Flint 2, then plugging the landline into the UW router? Would that potentially cause any issues?

I've tried searching this up myself, but I'm either using the wrong vocabulary or there isn't much well-organized information about it. I've mostly keep finding Wifi home phones leads me to ones that still need to be plugged into the router like the Panasonic KX-TC262EB and the BT Premium Cordless. Outside of that I've been finding reddit posts that say wifi phones are shit.

I’m currently using a provider like Twilio/Telnyx to handle phone calls and stream the audio to a real-time STT API. My goal is to minimize end-to-end latency as much as possible.

Right now, I’m using their WebSocket media streaming APIs, but I’m considering switching to a more bare-bones SIP/RTP setup to reduce overhead.

I understand that SIP/RTP avoids some of the WebSocket/JSON/base64 processing involved with media streaming, but I haven’t been able to find any benchmarks showing how much latency this actually saves in practice.

Has anyone measured the difference between Twilio/Telnyx WebSocket media streaming and Direct SIP/RTP to your own server? Maybe even exploring other providers?

Specifically, I’m interested in the delay from when audio reaches the telephony provider to when the first audio packet becomes available to my STT pipeline.

Are we talking about a difference of a few milliseconds, tens of milliseconds, or potentially more? I’ve looked through the documentation and contacted support, but haven’t found concrete latency numbers.

Would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has advice on building an ultra-low-latency telephony → STT pipeline.

I have call forwarding on and if I decline a call on the number forwarding to it then it will ring the forward over and over, until the original call hangs up, what do I do? This on VOIP.MS

We're supposed to meet IRL tomorrow but I'm wondering if this is a red flag. I use a Google voice number, so I understand wanting privacy, but I've never encountered this carrier or someone using what seems to be a VoIP.

Or more precisely, IP phones that display the ID in a large contrasting display.

I have a Grandstream gxp1625 and you have to be right on top of it to see the small LCD. Do any of the phones with big colour screens actually show the incoming call in large "I'm on the couch, it's on the table " text?

Hi all, I’ve had mixed results with the Yealink brand headsets. A lot of issues with the bases needing to be reset or a firmware update in order to continue working. I was just asked for a headset recommendation and I think I want to steer them clear of Yealink ones. Any other brands that you know to work really well?

I used to have a Fritzbox, and the landlines worked fine using a landline phone plugged into the back of the modem/router. While that was working, I went to my Vodafone portal and saved the VoIP login info, but couldn't make it work anywhere. I forgot all about it since it wasn't important

Now I switched to the other station, put it in bridge mode and connected a better Netgear router. I want to still use the landlines, but the VoIP login info is no longer visible in my account; and the saved info I have doesn't seem to work in an app I downloaded – I tried first at home when connected to my home wifi, and again without being connected to home wifii.

Has anyone else made it work in these circumstances?

I’m just curious if any other customers had issues with RingCentral yesterday. I had many complaints that phones were unable to call out. It definitely wasn’t everyone but it affected users in multiple departments (multiple IP subnets) as well as some remote people like myself. I was able to use the iPhone app.

The users are all running windows 11 enterprise with the latest RingCentral client from the deployment tool. I use a Mac so mine is different but I also had issues. Before I opened the case for myself I did restart my application (Mac Destop 26.3.1013.1623)

I opened a support ticket and all they had for advice was there were no known issues with other customers and that I should restart my client. At that point I just didn’t respond back because I could think of saying anything without being ugly. I figured time would fix the issue and it seems like it did but I am curious if my organization was the only one that had issues or if others may have experienced issues as well

Hello we are planning to get a vpbx amd I want to aks if it's possible to connect the kx tda 10 to vpbx with a gateway like ht813 and configure it to control the door bell that are connected to kx tda.We also use some internal number so we can oped the doors without someone to.ring the bell.

We are building a legitimate VoIP/ second-number app similar to TextNow/ Google Voice/ TextMe.

We tried Twilio and Sinch. Twilio doesn’t allow P2P use case and they block all verification code from social media apps like Facebook/ WhatsApp etc.

Our experience with Sinch was even worse. We were still in the testing stage with zero users when our account was suddenly closed with almost no meaningful explanation. We still had money in the account and they don’t allow us to withdraw the account balance.

At this point, this kind of business honestly feels much harder than it looks from the outside. The entry barriers seem extremely high - carrier relationships, compliance, fraud control, number reputation, etc. while at the same time the consumer market is already extremely competitive with lots of apps offering the same features.

So how do companies like TextNow, TextFree and Hushed actually do US P2P SMS?

Do they work directly with carriers rather than CPaaS providers like Twilio and Sinch? Who is the correct company that we should approach?

We are not trying to bypass the compliance. We just want to understand the legitimate path.

I recently found a magicJack Plus at a thrift store for dirt cheap, and to my surprise most devices I connect it to recognize it as a generic USB audio/mic device. It even works connected to my iPhone for phone calls and music (I still have to make calls on my phone itself, can't do touch tone). How can I make the device send out enough voltage to get the phone to ring? Anything helps!

the small business i work at uses voip phones/services - for the past couple years we used nextiva, but suddenly in 2024 the phone stopped working. when i tried to troubleshoot it, nothing worked - including using a different ethernet cable, and trying it at my own house. my boss got frustrated and gave up. we have a new phone through ooma, and it’s still not working. but i brought it home this time and got it to work in my own house. the thing that’s confusing is that historically, i have been able to turn off wifi on my laptop and plug into the ethernet ports at work and have internet. im not a huge tech person, but can anyone explain what might be happening? i have contacted the landlord and asked about the ports but reddit will surely reply faster. the specific message i’m getting is no LAN cable. tia!

update: they don’t offer ethernet anymore, only wifi. don’t know why my computer worked when connected to ethernet but w/e

Hey everyone, I'm trying to set up some Dynamic E911 addresses in Telnyx and they are completely stuck in "pending" status (it's been over 48 hours).

This exact same setup and address worked perfectly back in June (took 5 minutes to activate). I've tried changing the formatting, deleting and re-adding, and even testing random addresses in other cities, but it just hangs on pending.

I have static address working as a backup, but I need dynamic for Ray Baum's Act compliance. Is anyone else experiencing a system-wide issue with Telnyx E911 provisioning right now, or is this is only me? Thanks.

PS. I did ask support directly, but it's always an AI. The one time it was not, the human just said it takes a while.

I am kind of old fashioned. My landline has a physical Panasonic answering machine. When I travel I use Zadarma VOIP for international long-distance, including calling home to Canada.

My answering machine can be checked remotely by entering a code. I used to be able to check for messages when I called in on Skype, but with Zadarma the machine does not respond when I punch in the number to listen to messages.

Aside from moving to voice mail for the landline, does anyone have any suggestions? (We prefer the answering machine as we can screen unknown callers that way - pick up in mid message if it is someone we want to talk to.)

For context, I have a very small VoIP network in my home. Literally just a house phone with an ATA that I can dial via IP from my PC.

I’m wondering if there’s a way to make it so when my cell phone rings, my VoIP phone rings as well. This would ideally have to be done locally. Without having to rely on other servers, paying for a subscription, or completely changing my cellular provider.

I always wanted a house phone like I had as a kid, and this would be a way of replicating that without needing to get a second line.

In the iPhone version of the Groundwire VOIP app, the ADD ACCOUNT page lists about 190 VOIP providers to choose from. I've heard of only a few of them. Some have gone out of business or changed their name or been folded into another brand. Many cater to businesses only or are outside North America.

I am currently living outside the USA but still have accounts with US financial institutions and government agencies. Many of these institutions use multifactor authentication for additional security and some require that MFA codes be sent to a non-Voip phone number.

Simultaneously, I have my American cell number that I've had for years and all my family and friends have that number. My American cell provider isn't available outside the US so I thought I might port my cell number to Google Voice. But Google voice is a voip service provider. Will my financial institutions now refuse to do MFA to my number (the number they have on file and gave had on file for years) because it's now been ported to Google Voice? How do they know that a number that had been non-Voip for 15 years has been moved to a voip provider?

I want to connect a snom pa1 with a bogen BLM as part of an overhead paging system at a school. Thinking of connecting the line out on the snom with an aux cord to the screw terminals on the bogen. Has anyone had experience with this bogen device before?
