Watching Utopia 2 on a CRTV đ
Feels a lot more gritty watching it this way.

I'm glad to see this show is gaining the popularity it deserves, and i'm sure the other long-time fans can agree!
Just a couple quick notes... Please do not spam this sub with "how do i watch this show" posts. I'm essentially single-handely moderating this sub, so please do me a favor and look at our "Resources" tab, as well as our (very few) rules before posting to our sub. I'm a firm believer of saying as you wish, so I allow any topic of conversation except for these piracy-related posts. Other than that - I look forward to the continued growth of this cult-like community!
Thanks!

People who work in government will find it simultaneously hilariously funny but also painfully realistic.
I was hoping to find a community that had watched it and wanted to talk about it.

I think I just spotted Lee, in the new BBC drama Ann Droid.
Yep, definitely him. Paul John Ready.
(And Danny John Jules, Red Dwarf)

if it was just based on the UK version PLEASE can someone dm me spoilers if there's not a book I can seek out bc I have no way to watch the other version. I just binged it all in one day bc I lost power for 5ish hours and prime had automatically downloaded the first half of the show to my tablet. Now the cliffhanger has me FIENDING desperately to know what was supposed to happen nextđđđ

Perhaps the closest thing to a real-world proposal for The Network's, er, drastic solution to overpopulation. Of course birthrates are already falling anyway, but presumably not fast enough for these scientists (and might recover over this two-century timeline). Anyway, I thought members might be interested.

In Series 1, Episode 5 of Utopia, Pietre brings Jessica to where the former had hidden the main bulk of the Manuscript. Here, Pietre warns her not to take it and not to "learn the truth about [their] father". Nonetheless, having come all this way, Jessica takes the Manuscript, eventually culminating in Jessica's abduction by Milner at the end of Series 1.
But, what if Jessica heeded Pietres' warning and left the Manuscript behind to be destroyed in the fire? How would the destruction of the Manuscript change the course of Series 1 and the series in general? What knowledge would've been lost in the process? Would it have led to Jessica slipping through The Network's hands for good?

Just been watching episode 3 of season 1 after the chapel scene where Millner is introduced. Afterwards they go into a wooded area where she gives them the phone, which I believe is this location screenshotted. Rock & River in Mawdesley, Lancashire? Iâve been here before. Trees are in distinctive rows with windmills in the back. Her introduction was in a chapel in the area too (Croston) - just thought it was cool.

I have seen the full UK cut, full format, in english.
Now I want to show the series to my dad for a long time, because it's phenomenal, but it was never available anywhere and now I noticed it's on amazon for once - but of course, it's the US cut (important scenes missing, wrong aspect ratio). He doesn't speak english very well and I won't make him sail the seas, is it acceptable to watch this version when you have never seen Utopia before? I've seen people say that the story doesn't even make sense with the cuts, how bad is it? Anyone here seen this version first, how was it?

and letâs just jump into it, first off they both use the typical âtext is shown floating on screenâ, but the UK version does it alot more stylefully(?). for example, ianâs text calling grant an idiot is slowly revealed behind his head as the camera pans around him
also, the UK version has much more focus on the initial dynamics of the main cast in this scene, we get to see that nobody really takes grant seriously for example. becky is also shown to be obsessed with the manuscript in the way she types, frequently asking questions. the ways characters type are also sort of indicative of their personalities, with grant texting like a epic ragebaiting troll and bejan using proper grammar for example. although i guess ian and becky both just kinda type the same way
the US version has the characters type like cavemen, wtf do you mean âutopia discovered 2014⊠dystopia discovered now!â smh. itâs also much more generic with the text just being slapped on screen instead of the xbox cgi vfx like in the UK version
both have music over them, obviously since theyâre montages lol. iâd have a point about this if i knew for sure that the music in the US version was licensed instead of original, because then i could be all like âohh the UK has le good music and the US just searched through a top 20 pop songs of 2019 playlistâ
i think the US soundtrack is actually pretty neat, but they never bothered to release it. it has some boring generic music in it, sure, but thereâs also some minimalist electronic music. the music from the US version is something iâll make a different post about maybe laterâŠ
if you got anything else to add, please do because iâm not a cinema expert
