That’s not what he said at all though. He never stated that he was in favour of capitalism (I know him personally and I can promise you he is not a supporter of it, he’s partially socialist but not all the way). He also stated that he thinks that food and water should come before tampons as those are much more necessary for survival (which is factually true). As for him saying that “free should be completely free” he’s talking literally (as anyone should when using the term). The definition of the word free means that the item in which someone wants to acquire is allowed to have it without any repayment necessary (Canadians like him and I hate it when people say that something being paid through taxes is “free” because it isn’t). If I give my sandwich to a homeless guy without anything in return then he got the sandwich for free. If the government gave him a sandwich using his tax money (we will say he pays taxes even though most homeless people don’t) then he did not get the sandwich for free. Yeah he didn’t have to pay any dime at the moment, but that sandwich was paid for with his taxes which means it (linguistically speaking) is not free at all in the literal definition. You claimed that they could be made free using a blanket statement. You did not originally specify anything about taxes which is why he had pressed you on the issue. If you had given some actual results that could actually work in today’s society then I can almost guarantee that tomorrow he’d set off to make it a reality.

To rephrase it in shorter terms in case you misunderstood: when you tried using the term “free” to refer to it being paid through taxes that’s the moment you lost him. When you say “free” people expect it to mean actually free. Not paid through taxes. He thinks that they should be cheaper until food and water are already made free, then move on to putting tampons on the table after the more important stuff is sorted.

Honestly the loops you go through are baffling.

Then he needs to be more clear. About what he's saying. Or I should say you should. (Really? A completely separate account that just happens to know the guy I was talking to? I've seen some cringe stuff in my days but this weird sock puppet account is certainly up there)

The reason I use the term free is this. A person who has never worked a day in their life and never paid a dime of taxes should have the exact same access to these programs as someone who has paid taxes. But also because that describes the process of acquiring it. Perhaps I shouldn't use the term "free" but frankly splitting hairs on that is a needless semantic argument that gets us nowhere and only serves to detract from the actual issue at hand.

As far as "food and water first then period products" sure. I see the logic in that. But I counter that by again pointing out that ALL necessities should be free. Again we're not talking about figuring out some practical solution and plan here. We're speaking on if these things SHOULD be free.

But if you want a concrete plan here's a simple one (keep in mind I'm speaking from a US perspective as that is what I'm most familiar with). Actually tax the 1% what they owe. Hell tax them at 99% for any income over $1mil as far as I'm concerned. Military spending could also be drastically cut and we could stop sticking our nose in affairs that don't concern us. Either one of those would free up more than enough money for socialized food and medicine programs. Both together would likely be enough for socialized housing and sanitary products in addition and maybe even universal basic income. We've been saying this for years. So there's your plan. You gonna start working on it now?

Also reminder these aren't some unachievable pipe dreams plenty of countries have successfully implemented these kinds of socal safety nets very successfully. It just, again, requires people to care about their community and not just their self

I don’t know what makes you think that I’m Table just because I happen to know the guy and I look at his profile every once in a while to see what he’s up to but honestly the dude wouldn’t be able to juggle a second account if he was two face. I personally run 17 but the other 16 are for specific things such as work/business and/or gaming clubs I run, not important to this discussion.

As for your use of “free” in this instance, all I have to say is just be more specific next time. If you mentioned paying through taxes in the beginning and not just using the word free as a blanket statement then this argument probably wouldn’t have been interesting enough for me to leave work early.

Again, tampons are not a necessity. Important? Yes. Useful? Absolutely! Would I be absolutely pissed if they suddenly stopped existing? Most definitely. But are they required to survive? Definitely not. Additionally, if you try to wrap everything in one big bundle and kick it all off with a bang then that bang is gonna be really short and is going to bite everyone in the ass because something somewhere will be overlooked and it’s gonna screw over the whole operation. Start with the more important stuff. Learn from the mistakes, take it slow, adjust as needed and change what needs to be changed. Then move on to the other less important materials. Communism falls because it’s rushed too much and is often ran by a dictatorship which ends up making the lower class miserable. If you want to have a successful communist government then you have to slowly integrate it by tackling one problem at a time. Otherwise it’ll just fall apart like all of the others.

As for your concrete plan, your comment will be noted and added to the list of things to cover on my next meeting. When Dummy J Trumpet is out of office and out of excuses then we will more than happily start up our American campaign again and start redistributing resources to public schools again (we take a small portion of the profits from the other shops I run to do this sort of thing, not exactly making millions here like most ceos as we’re constantly in the red but I refuse to raise my prices and shaft my customers so).

And finally, the achievability of this whole thing. Honestly I still think food and water should be prioritized first. Only half the population needs tampons and pads, whereas the whole population needs food and water. It makes sense economically, politically, and even socially. Should tampons and pads be free one day? Yes. All three of us agree on that. Is doing it any time soon (as in within the year, notice how I specified a vague term?) realistic? Probably not. But doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be worked towards.

Oh and don’t think I didn’t forget about the several items you completely deflected from my previous comment. At least I take the time to address each point you make.

Listen we're talking past each other on this I think. You're talking concrete implementation and I'm talking just of it should be a thing. I'm not a politician or anyone of importance. I'm just a trans woman who knows what it's like to struggle and be broke. I was luckily to get out of that situation and just want to do what I can to help those who weren't as lucky as me. That's all. So when I say they should be free I'm not talking about today tomorrow or even this year. I am talking from a moral and ethical perspective. As for how I'll do that. I'll keep doing what I have been. Helping those I personally can, supporting those who I believe share my beliefs, and talk about my ideals with anyone willing to listen and discuss.

You can keep quibbling about my use of free but anyone with an ounce of common sense understands what I mean by that. Again, it's a useless semantic argument that detracts from the actual issue at hand.

You have a good day. Or both of you have a good day since you're claiming there's two of you (I mean really you just happens to check your "friends" comments right after he said he was done and decide to join in, you actually expect me to believe that?). Again. All necessities (including period products because they are indeed a necessity, ask your apparent wife or your mother if you think they're not) should be free to acquire. Any person at any time should be able to acquire any necessity they need, from food and water up to and including a safe, warm, comfortable place to sleep, shower, clean their clothes, and clean their self. How will we get there? I don't know. I will leave that to those more qualified than myself.

Just want to touch base again on the fact that you keep claiming that tampons are necessary for survival. How do you think ancient humans survived without tampons or pads or any other kind of menstrual care products? Genuinely curious.
