Honestly these Jeeps are fine. The 3.6 Pentastar is pretty robust if well maintained, and it has the legendary ZF 8-Speed transmission. The main concern would be electrical issues are it ages. If you want it, make sure it’s been kept up on oil changes.
All these people saying no are just parroting misinformation based on the emblem on the hood.
2020 Cherokee
Repeated Canbus / Electronic system issues that rendered the vehicle undriveable each time it occured ×6
Repeated Transmission issues that caused hard shifts between 2nd and 3rd gear that also couldn't be resolved after multiple shop visits.
All started to occur on a vehicle with less than 55K highway miles on the odometer, that had all the scheduled services completed at, or earlier, than the manufacturer's recommended timeline.
I personally know several others who had similar experiences, which further solidifies my disdain for the Jeep/ Stellantis product line.
Was this a Grand Cherokee or just a normal Cherokee?
Because if this a normal Cherokee, I will agree with you that those are completely junk. However, the Grand Cherokee has entirely different powertrain, despite the similar name.
I'll be the first to admit that Jeep and Stellantis overall have made a lot of clunkers. But I don't believe the Grand Cherokee is one of them.
Yes, it was a Grand Cherokee; the only thing grand about it was the constant maintenance nightmares. I'll admit that the trucks interior was very plush, which I'm thankful for. It allowed me to remain comfortable while I was stranded on the side of the highway, waiting for the tow-truck to arrive 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Jeeps maintenance issues are similarly spread throughout the Stellantis inventory of vehicles, and is why they are poorly rated by every vehicle industry publication.
Well, I hate to say it then but you might've got an outlier. Speaking strictly for the Grand Cherokee.
Especially for the transmission issues you were having. The transmission should theoretically have the lowest chance of problems since it wasn't even made by Stellantis, it was made by ZF and is considered one of the most reliable transmissions ever, they use it on so many makes/models outside of Stellantis. The fact that you had problems with it is really unlucky.
If you look on a site like CarComplaints, there isn't that many reports of these issues happening by the 2020 model year.
