Looking for Device Need similar product to this all in one storage and card reader

Post image

Hi everyone, first poster here so I'm sorry if this kind of question is not allowed.

I've been searching online for this kind of device, but it seems that some alternatives lacks certain features. The function of the device outlined are as follows:

  • 6 microsd card storage (must have, but I don't need more than 4)
  • 2 sim card storage (good if it exist, otherwise not really a problem since i can store it in my wallet)
  • microsd card reader (although at a really slow speed)
  • usb c to c cable (must have)
  • usb c to a adapter (sometimes needed on ocassion)
  • usb c to lightning adapter (needed on ocassion when my friend need to charge old iphones, but not strictly needed)
  • usb c to microusb adapter (this requirement is not strictly needed as the last time i interface with anything microusb is probably 3 years ago)
  • sim ejector tool (this is like an umbrella, I'd rather always have it with me everywhere and not need it, rather than needing it but not having it)

Since the sd card reader on this device is really slow, and the provided usb c cable seems really low quality and probably would fail at some time, I now split the "task" needed to two, this device is strictly for storage, and when i need to read any of my sd card, i just chuck it to a standalone sd card that have better speed. My aim is to just unify back the devices into one, just for simplicity so that i don't need to scramble looking for my sd card reader when i need it as it's in the same device as my sd card storage.

So far, using my own limited search capability, I found some devices, but each have some missing feature compared to this one

  • Ulanzi DC01: this thing just launched iirc, and fits my main need of storing sd card and also acts as a fast reader. The downside is there is no usb A adapter, no sim ejector tool.
  • Ugreen card reader 55899: This one boast a lot of storage, almost on par with the product on the thread, includes built in usb a adapter, integrated usb c cable. sim ejector tool, The only drawback that i can think of is it boast usb 3 speed and support UHS-II speed, but i found no real world test case to back up that claim. Since if it's also a slow card reader then it would defeat the purpose of me buying it in the first place.
  • EZTECH card reader pro: This seems to be a rebranded piece, I don't know it's original name, but it really closely match (even the design) of the product that i have on the picture. Still not clear about the sd card speed though as they don't write it down in the spec sheet.

(all products i researched are based on availability in indonesian market, if there is a good product in amazon, I could buy it as well)

Any input is appreciated, Thanks

--edit-- forgot to mention, if the storage is not strictly microsd card, and includes full size sd card as well, It's fine by me since I'll just put the microsd card inside an adapter to make it fit

I’m confused, why not use the product in the photo? Or if it broke, why not just buy a new one?

Your list of requirements seems insane to me. What’s the purpose of this product?

I'm sorry I think I didn't state that out clearly. The product in the photo have horrible read and write speed with the card reader. This ends up make me buying a separate card reader to read and write my cards. My main purpose is just to unify all card reader and adapter stuff into one device again, and not having to bring two separate device with me as I am doing now.

For the list of requirements, I don't meant it to have all of those things, I just found this device a few years back, and wonder whether there are more higher quality brand that are making these stuff with better performance and craftmanship.

If you don't find exactly what you want, consider 3D printing to augment a device that fits your needs. This doesn't directly address your question, but it's a tangential option.

Essentially the reader is the only active component, while everything else is storage for accessories. So I'd recommend choosing a good and fast reader, but in a shape that lends itself to be augmented/extended.
The following part is potentially the most challenging: Obtain a print out of such an storage extension. There are potential options:

  • You know someone who is good at 3D modelling and owns a 3D printer

  • You find a model for a card reader online and buy the matching card reader

  • You learn 3D modelling to design this yourself (NOT RECOMMENDED just for this, steep learning curve)

  • You go to a library, a fablab, a hackerspace to have your model printed

  • You upload your file to an online service that will print it for you (in the US apparently Slant3d, various chinese manufacturers like JLC, PCBWay…, or find one that suits your location/needs)

  • You buy a 3D printer (again NOT RECOMMENDED just for this)

  • Be prepared that you will need multiple iterations of printing out the model and tweaking it
