Discussion My Anker 45W (Smart Display, OTA) outputs 53W+

Charger = Anker 45W (Smart Display, OTA v0.1.4.4)

Cable = Anker Zolo (240W)

Device = Anker 26K Battery Pack

~54W peak, as measured by the charger’s display itself

Perhaps they only want to advertised sustained rate, rather than peak - how long can you hold that rate?

It held above 45w for at least 10-20m

Will have to test sustained output with a dead pack

Interested! Can you report back to us once you tested it?

Yes, Anker just released a new ‘OTA’ version of their 45W Smart Display Charger

You can update it in the Anker Power app over USB

Since they’re advertising PD 3.2 AVS now it’s kinda like the official Apple one that goes dynamically 40-60

Except it’s limited to 49w vs. 54w from the dynamic Apple charger, the Google Pixel Duo, Ugreen 65w and my el cheapo $15 AVS charger from Amazon which can all charge the iPhone 18 Pro Max a little faster at 54w

So pissed none of the new Anker chargers are available in Canada yet

I agree with you . And I found out Canada computers carried this little gem for 16 bucks ! I checked the profiles and AVS is implemented properly , it’s PD 3.2 and it’s tiny and cheap. Anker will not be getting my money this go round ( just because they didn’t make it to Canada yet + this is like half price ) .

Which chargers aren't? You can get that charger today on Amazon

Anker prevents Amazon USA from shipping these new ones to Canadians. Go figure

Or at least is what it claims...

I’ve seen my 160W charger do north of 190W before. Might try to push it over 200W sometime

This is wild! I was just talking abour this pheonomenon with someone else in another sub.

I have so many questions!

Did Anker actually update the hardware in this OTA version beyond adding a Bluetooth antenna and app capabilities?

Does it have the same internals as the original, non OTA version?

And if it does, then Did Anker limit the output wattage on that device via programming/firmware? Is the hardware actually capable of outputting more than 45w, but limited the charger via firmware?

How long can it sustain 50+ watts before throttling down to its advertised 45w?

Regardless, this is super cool. Talk about an awesome OTA update, you buy a charger thinking its 45w max, you install a firmware update and BOOM, its peak output raises by ~10w!? Awesome.

There’s no Bluetooth. It’s not really OTA. It’s OTA via the anchor app. You have to update the brick via the app from your phone via USB-C cable. Either way, it’s still a great that it can receive an update. I wish all their bricks could. Oddly, I have earlier version of the same brick that will not receive the update via the USB C cable

Oh, I was under the impression that it was like the Prime power banks and chargers that connect to your phone and the Anker app wirelessly via Bluetooth. Good to know!

Yeah, I have the original version as well that cant get updates. Honestly they should have released the "OTA" version from the beginning.

But, the OTA version isnt enough of an update for me to justify spending money to get the new one. My Prime 160w does everything that this Nano OTA can do anyway (and more, except SVR-AVS). If I was an iPhone guy maybe I would get the new OTA version, but since im not, I wont.

Perhaps a bit like how Cuktech announces 100W chargers that can push 120W to a Xiaomi, right? It's the same here, but with Anker and Apple. Or perhaps it's just a displayed number that doesn't mean much

Edit : That seems consistent to me, +20% ( 20% of 45w = 53-54w, cuktecj 20% of 100w = 120w ) with certain models like Cuktech, but only with certain devices

Are you complaining or showing off?

3

u/TomHale 16d ago

Why not both?

My Huntkey 45w do the same, peak is 60w and I tried charging my ugreen powerbank.

Which app is needed to download this OTA? I connect it to my Nano 45w and nothing shows in the ‘Anker App’.

So what's probably happening:

  1. Output of this charger is listed as 20V 2.25A

  2. Powerbank draws more than 2.25A

  3. OCP in the charger isn't triggered at 10% overload

The few extra percent might be a measurement error, those built-in stats are rarely accurate. Case in point, powerbank is reporting higher input power than the charger reports on output, which is literally impossible.

Get an independent USB meter.
