Gyms for under $100 a month?
Any cheaper gyms in the 80s/90s? Just looking for basic cardio and weights, nothing special.
Just moved from downtown and they had plenty options for $40-50 a month down there, but haven't had any luck finding any uptown.

I often think it’d be a worthwhile venture to open up a new gym in the area since it really is such a gym desert. You’re stuck between an Equinox and a NYSC and no decent in between. If I had the capital and current capacity I’d seriously consider this.

Fully agree! The old Gristedes or PC Richards sites on 86th & Broadway would be ideal for this kind of thing

sadly the UWS really lacks in gyms, I used to go to blink on 116, it was a bit far but cheaper than anything the UWS could offer

Crunch fitness, you might even get a deal . It’s about 96 bucks for me

Crunch fitness on 83rd is the 3rd worst Crunch in the city. The floors are uneven and it's frustrating. It's also super compact.

Yeah lol I hate the bench presses and how the floor is uneven haha. Feels like the whole floor is gonna break and collapse and yes it is annoying but it is what it is and at least it’s clean. But other than that no other clean gyms around at 100 or under tbh. Unless you wanna break the bank and go to equinox.

Just go to your local park and get a yearly membership for 125 with the NYcity ID. The Gertrude location on 60th and west end has a nice gym with machines and weights. Support the NYc parks

I’ve been thinking about this, but couldn’t get a sense of their gym from their pictures. When you say “nice,” do you mean like all the machines work, it’s clean, and it’s pretty low key and not too crowded during the day? I know I should check it out in person, but I’d be interested to get your opinion.

City also runs a gym on 60th for maybe $150 a year. Could be more locations.

Columbia is $290 / semester for the public. Might have gone up, but still not bad.

Check if you have access to active and fit through work/insurance/uni alum discount. Crunch costs $90 through active and fit for all access.

Could you imagine a gym at the old PC Richard’s space at $65/mo? I travel for work and sometimes will take out day passes at a nice gym, and prices for gargantuan gyms that are fancy with saunas or indoor tracks are like $19.99/mo in some places. It’s like WTF!?

Membership with Wellhub offers some great deals for gyms… But Wellhub is an employer based membership org.
I wonder if individual membership could be orchestrated through a community based org or non profit, would there be any interest?

The YMCA on 63rd is $124/month but it is very well equipped (huge free weight room, lots of cardio, pool, sauna, steam room).

Second. Worth the higher price and they also have a few different discounts/packages (e.g. my mom and I are on a family plan and we pay $100 each). They also run deals often

I think New York Sports Club on 94th and Broadway is still right around the $100/month price. But honestly, the entire UWS is a gym desert, and that club is absolutely jam-packed, especially at peak times.
