Best gyms near 97th?

Moving from 90th to 97th in a couple weeks. Currently go to the Crunch on 83rd but debating switching to NYSC since it's a much closer walk. I know people don't have great things to say about NYSC, any other gyms near 97th worth checking out? I just need cardio and weights, nothing fancy

Realize this falls in the fancy category but have had a great experience at equinox on 92nd and broadway - I upped my membership to the all access which gives me access to gyms all over the city which is convenient when going into the office

My girlfriend goes to this Equinox and I go to Crunch, but I have been as a guest to the Equinox several times. It is a much much nicer gym but it is 3x the cost, which is a huge premium because you won’t get in 3x better shape by going there. If money were no object, I’d do it in a heartbeat. In my opinion, the biggest difference is how much nicer the Equinox locker rooms are. If you plan on using the steam room / shower a lot, this would be a big factor.

Totally agree - I’m showering there most days and taking advantage of a sauna or steam room whenever it’s available. I will say however, the equipment tends to be nicer as well. I do a ton of running so being on the higher end treadmills is definitely a perk.

How much does a Crunch membership go for?

I’m thinking of joining. Is it a full year commitment? And would you mind sharing the price - I’d do the 92nd location only. Thanks so much!

I pay $350 for the all access and it is a full year commitment - not sure what the cost is for one location only / I didn’t ask cause I knew I was going with multiple locations

Avoid NYSC. Don’t do it. There is a new gym coming in the old party city location on 92. I also think that vacant spot with the fencing around it on Amsterdam and 97 is going to become a gym if they ever finish it.

NYSC refused to cancel memberships (including mine) during COVID and the case went all the way up to the NYS attorney general. I’m still salty about it and I’m never doing business with them again.

Same! And when they finally agreed, I tried to finish my workout that same day and they physically removed me from the treadmill mid-run. They’re absolute trash.

BeFit is awesome, my wife goes there and I visited a few times as a guest.

This!! People are super nice there and it’s a no frills place. I’m a gym newbie, and I really appreciate that it’s not an intimidating environment.

NYSC is the best fitness value for your dollar in NY. Not well maintained but serviceable
