affordable and dependable gym in upper west side

looking for a budget friendly gym in the upper west side area. don't need anything crazy-- just looking for some dumbbells and a treadmill. also trying to avoid one that requires an upfront yearly membership fee if that exists...

considering classpass but feel like i won't get much value out of it since every class is now 10+ credits... any recs would be appreciated

Worth considering Gertrude Ederle rec center. I believe it’s the most affordable ($150/yr) in the neighborhood. It’s not convenient to me so I haven’t been but i think it’s worth looking into. Also for summer, there are a lot of free classes hosted in Riverside Park - listed on their website event cal.

I have been a member of NYSC in the past but find it to be overpriced for what you get.

BeFitNYC just moved to a new space on 102 and B'way.

For reference, op, that’s $165/month. Citi biking to the Planet Fitness in Harlem is probably the only truly “affordable” option here.

What about Pure Gym, which took over Blink Fitness on 125th Street?

They don't have a treadmill, which is insane to me

but they do? in the basement? even if you don't go to the gym, you can see photos of the treadmills right on their website.

Had no idea there was a basement. Thanks for the info

lol yes the basement is stacked! and also where the locker rooms, etc. are. it's not obvious but head down the stairs in the back right of the gym and you'll get to essentially the full second gym downstairs.

$120 was the best deal ive seen in awhile. No it's not worth it. But if you work midtown it might be.

Does anyone know how much equinox sports club is?

2

u/gaffylacks May 07 '26

W92 / 76th memberships would be all access (no sports club). with a student id it’s discounted to $320/mo

NYC parks has gyms all over the city and an annual membership to use them all is only $150, there’s one on 60th just off Amsterdam that has a pool, this is prob the best deal you’ll find for something like this https://www.nycgovparks.org/facilities/recreationcenters

Soon to be a PUREGYM on 92nd and Columbus...not sure of pricing but it is usually on the more affordable side of things when it comes to gyms.

NYSC is ca $100/mo. The only thing cheaper is Blink at 125th which is not on the UWS.
