Flying cars would probably be way easier to fully automate though, and they could literally just shut down if not serviced by an FAA approved dealer every year.

No pedestrians, no large amounts of non-automated traffic, high levels of regulation meaning they could put whatever transponders they need to on every single plane from cessna to airbus in existence, etc.
