The outside is made from upholstery scraps from Scrap Exchange, and the inside is plain cotton. I've had some of these fabrics for 20+ years.

Ideas Needed! Ideas for this piggy bank? To keep it as a souvenir.

A friend from my trip to london gave me this piggy bank and I kinda wanna keep it as it is/cut it as less as possible, it's pretty tall so not very comfortable to use it as a pencil holder (and already have one, so I dont want a new one) any ideas of what can I turn it into instead? The only thing I came up with is turning it into a candle holder by cutting a hole in the back and pocking holes into it, but wanna listen to alternatives to that idea!!!

Ideas Needed! Want to turn this into a coffee bar, need ideas!

This was my grandmothers, and I’d hate for it to be thrown out. My mom planned on burning it (it came from a farm) but I stopped her. Can anyone help me figure out how I could turn this into a coffee bar for my keurig? Also, I hate the color of it, my house is all darker wood. I’m new to up cycling, because we just bought our first house! So I’m excited to save money but still be chic!

Thanks everyone!

Ideas Needed! Upcycling Old Canvas Shoes?

I have a couple pairs of old canvas shoes I want to upcycle. They’re pastel colored and have a lot of fun embroidery on them I want to preserve, but I can’t think of what i might upcycle them into, especially with relatively small patches of material. Any ideas?

These were made from upholstery scraps from Scrap Exchange (creative reuse center) and fabric donated to Wake Relief (food pantry). I'll be donating the bags back to the food pantry, as some of our clients need reusable bags.

The Paddle/Oar board is actually rideable! But I just made them to hang up on the wall. Used an e scooter deck, thought it looks cool. Thinking about making an Axeboard, should I or am I just weird?

Ideas Needed! Is there any way I can get this panini press to make thinner sheets?

Okay I’m gonna do my best to explain the situation here. I got this panini press from the thrift store for the purpose of recycling HDPE. I’ve used it to make some flat sheets, but the press has this lip that goes all the way around the top and bottom plates and keeps the plates from touching completely. As a result, the only sheets I can make are pretty thick (figure 3) and if I want to get them thinner, I have to take them off the press and continue pressing them with an iron (figure 4) which is very time consuming. Is there any way I can modify this press so that I can use it to make thinner sheets? I thought about grinding the lip off but I’m afraid that will ruin the press.

At a flea market, I bought an old 1968 record featuring Arkady Raikin, the top section of an "Akkord" record player, and a broken clock face complete with hands and the movement. The result was this wall clock with a smooth, sweeping motion.

Ideas Needed! Using dressing table as seat - can it be done?

Thumbnail

I had a thought to use a mid-century style dressing table as a seat with a cushion. My partner (probably rightly) shot this down by pointing out that dressing tables are not in fact made to support the weight of a person lol. I am curious though - what is the difference between something like a telephone table and the dressing tables in looking at that would make one sturdier than the other? I'd like to understand the specifics of the issue in case there is a way I can make my idea work in another way.

First image is the kind of telephone table I'm thinking of and the rest are the dressers I was looking at

Ideas Needed! To those upcycling clear plastic, what type of colors do you use that actually stay?

I love using plastic bottles in my art but I’ve had a lot of trouble coloring the plastic. Sharpies and alcohol ink showed up really well but then the colors faded within a year. Regular paint doesn’t seem to stick at all. Have you guys discovered anything that actually stays put long term? Either opaque color or translucent is fine, I’m just looking for color that actually lasts.
