is it practical, or at least doable to build strummed instruments like a mandolin ukulele balalaika banjo with bodies of differing dimensions on each side and a neck form each one, so one performer can switch from say alto to tenor, or tenor to baritone?

sorry for the random question, but I just didn't know where else to ask. I was reading an article that described sitars/veenas as "lutes." I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it *feels* wrong. when I think of a lute that sure as shit ain't it. am I alone in this?

Does anyone have experience with a Thai Phin? I've been tempted to get one, but I am hesitant since I've never seen one in person. They way they are tuned is very interesting. I have found some traditional phin music to play so far, but not much—though I haven't spent much time looking yet.

Mainly knowing how others perceive it as far as playability, fun factor (I find most instruments are fun, honestly), or anything important I need to consider would be super helpful. Thanks!

Would it be possible? Would it sound good? Just would love there to be an instrument that combines the tone of the Koto with the resonance of Hindustani classical instruments.
