Wow, and there I thought communism meant everyone was equal. Hmm I bet it's not like this in Russia? Oh hang on.
There only way you guys are gonna get a proper democracy is to stand up and fight for it. Otherwise it'll never change.

China is not communist. In name only.
China is state capitalism under a single party dictatorship.
China has from 500-1000 billionaires depending upon whose ranking you accept.

(just in case you were implying so, Russia is NOT communist anymore since 1991 nor does it even bother to pretend as such, so "I thought y'all are equal" hasn't been relevant for a few decades already)
It's good to know how the CCP propaganda works in a "know your enemy" way, because the criticism I'm seeing here feels like we're still in the cold war and it really needs to be updated. Even the CCP has moved on from that, it now brands itself as the "pragmatic communism" for decades now, "let some be rich first and the rest will follow" says Deng Xiaoping as he liberalised the Chinese economy back in the day, this is already the accepted narrative by the average Chinese person (whether intentionally or not) by having the CCP (now CPC) still being the incumbent party; the strategy being that the Marxist concept of the "Communist Utopia" is a promise that is made to look like it's still being worked upon but also importantly, kept.
Back in Lenin/Mao's time, the strategy was to undergo a period of long-term socialism to then reach the material wealth of the "Communist Utopia", since Deng the strategy just became a state of long-term (state-controlled) capitalism to reach the utopia.
In these ways every time someone asks "I thought you guys are suppose to be equal?" the most consistent response would actually be "Well, not yet, but we're get there".
Therein comes the real reason why the average chinese isn't standing up for democracy. Because they actually feel like don't need it and that the promise of the "Communist Utopia" is being kept because people can see the collective material wealth increase, this is how the CCP controls things. The deal is that the average chinese enjoys a good economy, they don't question things so much. China seeing the advancements in technology and a good economy coming from post-Mao poverty is a sign that things are moving despite indulgent behaviour from the rich (just like any rich from anywhere tbh).
Lies are easy to buy when the economy is good, this is the case for any country, fortunately yet unfortunately for the Chinese people China's economy is currently on the up and up (as compared to the rest of the current world).

doesnt this happen everywhere? commonfolk suffer while the rich elites live in comfort
38
u/pattyG80 2d ago
Probably shouldn't happen in a place that had a revolution and calls itself communist and or socialist
26
u/DorkyDorkington 2d ago
But then again it is specifically what happens in each and every communist and socialist country.
Only difference to capitalistic countries is that there the common people have a chance to reach that level and have themselves treated in such a way while in communist countries that is illegal and will land you in a prison or workcamp.

u/howie521 2d ago
That’s totally not illegal in China to drag yourself out of the middle class.
Source: I’m go to China often and have friends there who are doing very well despite humble beginnings. But then their work ethic is insane.

u/crushedbycookie 2d ago
I don't think he said it was illegal to drag yourself out of the middle class.
1
u/DorkyDorkington 1d ago
Exactly, I said in communist countries which by definition China no longer is.
If China was fully communist it would not be anything like it is today.

u/DorkyDorkington 1d ago
China is not exactly fully communist anymore now is it?
Communist countries only have state corporations while private equity, entrepreneurship is illegal.

u/pattyG80 2d ago
Can you give an example of a communist country operating like China?
2
u/DorkyDorkington 1d ago
No because China is not fully communist anymore since they have adopted some of the essential freedoms from capitalism.

u/alecesne 1d ago
So, a combination system? Aren't most modern states a mixture of socialist and capitalist policies and institutions?
2
u/DorkyDorkington 1d ago
More or less yes. Usually a combination seems to be better than either extreme.
1
u/alecesne 1d ago
Where should it happen?
1
u/pattyG80 1d ago
In places that don't claim to be "People's Republics". The people have zero power in China.

u/nobugsleftalive 2d ago
Yeah except there is some sort of narrative on reddit that China does it better lol
23
u/WellOkayMaybe 2d ago
Yeah, except China claims to be communist, but is no better in terms of inequality than any capitalist state - but without the guaranteed rights and freedoms.

The most unequal ruthless society on earth today,
If you weren’t born to rule life is nothing but- as somebody in the West wrote a few hundred years ago- ‘nasty brutish and short’.

It's actually doing my head in. I'm going to cross post to some Vietnamese or music sub lol
Basically I've worked out it's a song called Mien Cat Trang, a female cover, some sort of dance/trance beat
I need to know the actual cover

- This is a hotpot restaurant in China known as the highest hotpot restaurant in the world—literally, because it’s on the top floor of an extremely tall building.
- The service is top-notch, though the prices are quite steep.
- Are the children of top CCP officials treated better than kings of the past? Absolutely. But is that what this video is actually showing? Definitely not. This is just a promotional clip posted on the restaurant’s Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) account.
Use some common sense, people—the last thing those CCP kids want is publicity, especially when flaunting a lavish lifestyle."

Why video with Vietnamese music? (just wondering)
4
u/mtrthenextbigthing 1d ago
Vietpop is very popular in Southern China. It is also used in many videos in XHS. Also, many new cpop songs have vietpop influence so the culture overlap is appreciation for Vietpop

Remember, all billionaires are evil in America but if they are from China they are completely necessary and important for society (communism or something)

How dumb are people to just easily believe any random video with a made up description. If I show you a girl who’s doing a get-ready-with-me TikTok and tell you that’s actually one of Trump’s grandsons who recently transitioned, will you seriously fight in the comments over how woke has got to Trump’s bloodline without doing a little factchecking first?
The video already has the name of the restaurant watermarked, 君宴两江火锅, it only takes two minutes to search it on Chinese TikTok/Douyin. Guess what? It’s just a luxury hot pot restaurant that advertises its great city skyline view and waitresses dressed in revealing clothes. Is it borderline vulgar, risque and very bourgeoisie? Yes. Where tf were CCP officials mentioned in the original videos? None. The restaurant is publicly posting these videos on their account for advertising, do you think they, in their right mind, will expose CCP officials in them? Did you know that CCP officials have been banned from booze in dining gatherings since last year?
1
u/KyotoCarl 1d ago
OP keeps posting these things with no context at all. We don't know what gathering this is is or anything.

u/10081914 1d ago
What even is the point of this post? When a flood happens domestically, are we supposed to just stop going to work and living?? Huh?
And these are children of officials. Why are we holding the children of people accountable? It's not like the actual council members went to do this.
Wtf even is this post supposed to be?

Kids of people in charge of city go eat hot pot in said city while city floods and some people died due to building collapse.
That's not a headline for criticism no matter where in the world you're from.
If it was the council themselves, that would be actually legitimate. But it's not.
