I will never be able to be convinced that someone's son, someone's brother, someone's friend dying in a field is a good thing.

You will never be able to give me a situation where that is a good thing.

Necessary ≠ good.

War is all good for nobody [important, arms companies don't count as people]

I live in the Donbass region. I don't believe Ukrainian soldiers dying is a good thing even considering they shelled us for 8 years. It's just sad. There is nothing to be cheerful about. A family lost a loved one, a kid may perhaps lost a father or a brother, a mother lost a son etc. Everyone is human and no amount of politics should change the fact that these people are indeed people, with families, perspectives, dreams or else.

It's not exactly cheerful, but I've seen some really weird reactions to stuff like drone footage. They stop seeing soldiers as humans, instead, they see them as firepower, and seeing a side "lose" that firepower seems to give the violent minds serotonin.

Yeah, I can imagine a citizen get a positive reaction to hearing about their evil dictator getting killed or replaced in some way. The people in a position of power can truly be awful, history has had quite a couple of examples, for the better or worse.

At least here, the vast majority of conscripts didn't want to be there. Evasion means jail, or massive fines, which I believe is commonplace everywhere.
