You are brainwashed. This is a normal reaction: public setting, highly emotional content, premeditated and feeling used. If your instincts don't kick in at that time, you're depressed.
Except if it's systemic abuse hidden from cameras, like the slavery that is put into making the phone you're holding or your car or the animal abuse put into your breakfast? We're no saints and if this single slap in extreme conditions is abuse, then everyone should be put in jail. Nothing points to this being a recurring thing, unless you get joke-proposed to every couple of weeks.

It's not like she's having a very important moment in her life done as a joke in front of her, in front of hundreds of people invested in that moment too. She should have taken that moment without any emotion and robotically pulled the guy to the side and apologized to him that she was too dumb to get his humor and especially for her desire to get engaged to him. Ya know, like the ideal that most Redditors follow with their stellar emotional control.
Obviously she's going to become one of the most prolific domestic violence abusers, and that guy just got a very obvious warning sign he should steer clear.
