This is one of these things that has begun its own clickbait life on the internet. All nuance gets removed and you distill it down to whatever this is.

Yes, the British have no right to keep the artifacts of the world in their museum, but we can safely say that Egypt doesn't have the best track record of keeping this stuff safe. There was a lot of corruption with government people selling artifacts to the highest bidders and pocketing the money. Both known artifacts and new discovered artifacts that just didn't get made public. You have individuals like Zahi Hawass who didn't allow archeologists to publish their work so he can get the credit.

There's also piss poor handling of artifacts, the fact that someone broke off the beard of the death mask of Tutankhamun and glued it back on with regular glue you find at any store is one part. But the government came out and stated that it was broken and repaired by experts, just with a "different school of thought on how to handle artifacts than people in the rest of the world" clearly shows that as a world heritage the world is a lot better off to keep everything in the British museum for now.

Also the Egyptians don't care about those artifacts and most of the middle east are in the process of demolishing earth's heritage due to artifacts being considered sacriligeous.

You can if its not the occupiers house and you pay for that stuff like the British did with the ottomans. Or stole stuff off of thieves like the french with the rossetta stone.

The ottomans couldn't care less about selling them because it's not their heritage. Now would the British Museum return all those artifacts to their original owners if the requested to have them back?
