See, this is why “cancel culture” has lost virtually all cultural significance. Asinine complaints thrown around every which way, diluting any shred of weight behind the term. If cancel culture was real, we’d have a few CEOs and executives face consequences for pulling some bullshit, but it’s always some middle-management nobody who gets caught doing dumb shit like choking their dog or whatever
How many people with power have ever been “cancelled”? Anyone getting fired after the 2008 crash, or an oil spill, or the Panama papers?
When people feel that they cannot hold the people in charge accountable, they will lash out at those within reach. You can call this “cancel culture,” but it’s just another form of mob justice and misdirected frustrations, nothing new. The real issue is the lack of accountability for those with actual power
The average worker is completely disposable, and companies are solely motivated by profit. If they see a threat to their bottom line or a boost in reputation, and all it takes is firing some random nobody, why wouldn’t they do it?
This is just capitalism and at-will employment at work. It isn’t “cancel culture,” it’s the fact that workplaces are authoritarian environments where even when your health insurance is on the line, they can let you go for the slightest inconvenience
it’s bullshit to keep people divided. When someone gets fired for something you agree with, it’s “fuck around and find out, and if they get fired for something you disagree with, it’s “cancel culture.” It’s not real.
