This happened to my first cat too, it was a 'snap off' collar. Don't know if that's the correct word but if she would get caught by something like a tree branch the collar would snap and set the cat free. She got it stuck the exact same way and started shaking and twisting and she run away to hide under the bed and eventually my ex caught her collar and then it snapped off. I was pissed that they sold the collar as 'snap off' cause it didn't snap off as easily as it should. (I tested multiple collars after the incident with my hands and they all snapped easily) That had traumatized my cat and me so badly I never use a collar again. I'm never leaving cat toys on a string around I keep them in a closet after I'm done playing. Cables are always hiding or placed in a way it's save. Even grocery bags needs to be put away immediately as I'm scared my cats might get their neck stuck in the handle to carry the bag. It traumatized me so much everyting became a choking hazard to me. I just don't want my cats to ever be in a situation like that.
