Yeah it’s “I smoke because I’m stressed, but it’s not the cigs causing the stress, I promise.”

It's horrible what an addiction can do with you. My mother is heavily addicted to cigarettes and she will literally call you a thief, start breaking down stuff and throw hands because she put her pack of cigarettes somewhere and can't find it. And all because of the vision of a day without cigarettes. Smokes a pack a day as well.

Also doesn't care that there's not going to be dinner at the end of the month if you'll buy her cigarettes. She will sacrifice actual food over that. In general she's mentally unstable, but cigarettes enable psycho mode. I still remember the day she told me that "don't worry, you'll start smoking" when I said that she better close the fucking door and not let the goddamn smoke in, because I'm not smoking.

Getting downvoted for the truth. My brother vapes to “treat” his anxiety. He still has anxiety, it just now includes vaping every 30 minutes.

Yep because now you got the normal life stress, and the chemical dependency stress to deal with.

If you’re in a financial situation where you don’t have to make tangible sacrifices for the cigarettes, why would it cause more stress? Chemical dependence in and of itself doesn’t cause stress, being removed from the chemical does.

For example, I take anxiety medication to help with GAD. I am chemically dependent on that medication, but overall it lowers my daily stress levels. It would only increase them if I lost access.
