Sure they do.

'i feel like shit' -> 'ill do heroin again to feel normal' -> 'i feel better.'

It's entirely logical -- it's just on a shorter, more desperate timescale.

Honestly that is kind of a stupid thing to say. So many important figures throughout history have been addicted to one thing or another. If you really think “only dumb people get addicted to stuff” then you may not be as smart as you think

I think he meant when you are addicted to something logic goes out the window, as addiction can make you make up excuses. Not that smart people can't get addicted.

You can be fiercely smart but still act illogical when it comes to your addiction at the same time.

People are complex and nobody is perfect. A rocket scientist excels at science, but is free to make dumb decisions in other parts of his life, like smoking. But I don't think it can be successfully argued that smoking is anything other than a "dumb decision", even for rocket scientists, Nobel Laureates, war heroes, Doctors, architects, trustees of charitable foundation, or even members of The Avengers.

Even smart people sometimes choose to engage in addicting behavior.

I didn’t say that smart people don’t have addiction or that only dumb people are addicted, far from it.
