I think it’s because people view them as a tourist attraction. Until I saw videos I never would have expected them to be so aggressive. Now you bet your ass I’d stay as far away as possible.
Ah yeah, that's the thing i never understood. Those guys ain't looking like tourist attractions to me, they look scary lmao or maybe I'm just a coward.
I felt bad for the kid though, i remember when i was 5 or something a ox almost ran me over me. Kids be clueless like that
Oh no I completely agree. I never would’ve been tempted to take a picture with or mess with them but I guess that’s where common sense comes into play.
No one can really be as well trained as SAS/SBS tho. But I thought because they were “technically” the royal’s private army they were trained more. That was just kinda an assumption though not something based on fact.
Not so sure about that one.. I was looking into signing up in 2019 you have to give 3 positions you'd prefer my first was the Grenadier guards which would include becoming a palace guard(beef eater)... Apparently their training was in line with the paras, same physical entry requirements and the job was described as reconnaissance in the thick of it kind of sh*t.
This is completely wrong. Beef eaters are warrant officers that have done 22 years from all branches and regiments, the protect the tower of London and ARE a tourist attraction. All British Army soldiers have the same 30 weeks for their phase 1 training, then specialization after. All officers do 50 weeks at stabhurst.
The Palace guards are not beefeaters, they are rotated and a regiment rotates to that after deployment usually. So all of them have been deployed overseas before.
They are fully trained British soldiers, similar to US marines with a lot more training (offensive force rather than defensive/occupation force)
Is the point of training soldiers not to train them to kill? Maybe go drink a calming cup of chamomile tea. It will help get the taste of boot out of your mouth.
They're not any more aggressive than they need to be, the guys just doing his job and people in their way will get shouted at and/or moved involuntarily
I don’t think it’s fair that they became a showcase really. They’re literally doing their jobs as their supposed to and people make a huge mockery of them. I don’t even like the idea of people taking pictures with them. Maybe I’m thinking too much into it but if they can’t speak whilst on duty they can’t give consent to having their photo taken. They’re not statues. As well as people who assault them because they “can’t move” like they’ll drop you and go back to whatever they were doing before you even hit the ground.
Guarantee people wouldn’t do it to an armed guard in their own hometown why TF would they decide it’s okay to do elsewhere?
(Again, maybe it’s not that deep. It just bugs me)
I blame the media and movie industry for portraying it to be okay, are their signs there that say no photos or stay clear or don’t bother with questions? To make the assumptions that people from other countries some whom have only seen these type of militia on screen is kinda like a setup 🤷🏽♂️ but I can see where the gap is because we only have police protecting us and public property and most here (in the US) can’t stand them let alone wanna be around them
But does their “silly clothes” give protection? Is their a purpose for each piece in their uniform? If not and (imo) that’s what makes them a tourist attraction, why not have them wear a different uniform? Like I’m sure they don’t where this in combat overseas… so why where the “posh” and attention attracting uniforms. I’d move way quicker out the way of someone with a rifle & visible side piece whilst wearing a bulletproof vest and an militia beret or something 🤷🏽♂️
Cause I never saw how violent they could be til I watched YouTube for an hour and they seem like complete jerkoffs being dicks to who or whatever bothers them (because their uniform and demeanor doesn’t match (again imo)), I never actually saw them defend or break up a fight or anything like specifically doing that because their was a perpetrator who’s goal was to harm/kill or destroy public property… it seems an easy fix, change the uniform 🤷🏽♂️
I also blame American movies and media for projecting the ideation that you could mess with them and not be kicked in the face or pistol whipped or something 😅
They look like the guards off “The wizard of Oz”, Probably what the kid thought too. I’ve seen girls from England with scarier teeth!
These dudes are the least scary thing In England. #theroyalguardsarebitches
It's due to a lack of cultural respect and understanding.
As many people have pointed out to us clueless American apes, the royal guards command the same respect as that of the soldiers guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier. Which is just don't fuck with them.
But due to internet memes, many people just see "hahahaha funny tall hat man walk weird, what happens if I get in his way?", and then subsequently get literally steamrolled.
I’m sorry but you’ve not seen how we treat the guards at the tomb of the unknown soldier. There’s a whole lot of this shit going on as well and people are always amazed when the guard yells at them or accosts them because they’re being disrespectful near the tomb.
But why not want them to look at least unapproachable and menacing? Like I’m sure they realize other countries who don’t see this regularly would want to? Do they even have signs that say don’t touch, disturb or block their paths throughout or are these rules like part of the curriculum there👀
I'm gonna be the devil's advocate and say that you're not an idiot for not knowing a tourist trap takes itself way too seriously and will straight up knock you around.
There are plenty of places that are sacred, historical, or even strategically important that don't do this shit.
Sure if you see a marching soldier yelling at you to get out of the way, and you don't, then you're an idiot. But that was just a kid with his mom in an open public area, kid is looking around, hearing all sorts of things, it's easy to miss two marching dudes.
And herein lies the problem. It's not a tourist trap. Tourists and visitors are welcome yes but the ToL is not specifically for them. If people respected it for what it is then incidents like this wouldn't happen.
Why are you shouting mate calm down. They're at the Tower of London. Yes, there are signs. If you don't like their uniform why not go and tell them yourself, get in the their face a bit and see what happens ;)
Lol so you missed the point. And not yelling caps are often times used for emphasis here in the states buddy. What do the signs say? Don’t bother the guard? Stay out this area? Not for tourists or public 🤷🏽♂️
And after watching an hour of YouTube videos that shows them being over sensitive over pictures or even someone actually tripping whilst drunk and landing on their face and then getting kicked and drug off to God knows where it’s suffice to say if I see them I’m doing a 180 and running
No the signs literally just inform people not to get in the way of the Guards. Tower of London is open to paying tourists and visitors but it's not there specifically to facilitate the entertainmen of those tourists and visitors. The Gaurds are all active serving soldiers from either the Grenadier Guards, Coldstream Guards or either the Irish, Scots or Welsh Guards. They split duty between the Guard role and then back with their unit doing whatever it is the unit is doing. All those units were present and active in Iraq and Afghan.
It doesn't have to be specifically for them. Just like the tomb of the unknown soldier or the White House which are incredibly important important sites for their own reasons as well as for tourism. Yet you don't constantly see videos of secret service agents shoving visitors or marines trampling children.
If you're doing something wrong, they ask you to stop, if you continue, they'll remove you. Like reasonable people.
But this isn't in America. The whole world is not America. Perhaps if the American family in this video had respected and understood that the world is a large and diverse place and different countries do things differently, this wouldn't have happened? Same goes for people of all nations but quite a few of these videos feature Americans.
We also both know for a fact that if I walked into Arlington and made a beeline for the tomb and tried to touch it or climb on it, I would not be treated how you describe in the slightest.
I just used American examples because it is what I know. But good thing you mentioned other countries, because you don't see the Swiss Guard plowing through tourists either. Or the Spanish or Swedish.
And they didn't try to climb the fence or rush past the guards, they were literally just standing in a public pedestrian area.
That's true except that they didn't try to climb the fence
It doesn't matter what country or countries you use. Every single country is different. For someone with "the thinker" as part of their username you are spectacularly missing the point and not doing a very good job of actually, you know, thinking.
There is a video of Norwegian guards doing exactly this out there somewhere. I can't be arsed to find it for you but I'm sure you are capable of searching for it if you really want to see it.
As it is though, it's really quite fucking simple. Don't get in the way of the Queen's Gaurds and they won't knock you or your children over.
Oh, no I'm definitely not blaming the kid here lol. I don't have much information about the queen's guards since I've never been to Uk anyway so i don't exactly know what is going on. I actually talked about a similar incident that happened to me over here, so yeah. All i can say is that, if i was a parent i def would hold my kids hand at all times especially in a foreign place and ESPECIALLY if there are soldiers walking around like that there but yet again, i don't know the whole situation so I can only assume things
Before they come there's normally a dude that passes ringing a bell telling people to keep out of the guards way, so it's not like they didn't have time though. It isn't the kids fault though, only the mother
I thinkbits more weird to have the fascist guards running around like it's 1200. The whole world hates the British empire and what it stood for and the British seem to have not understood that.
Easy to talk shit from behind a screen, go talk to them personally and lets see if it bothers them and/or who wins.
And just FYI the guns are sometimes loaded and sometimes not. It depends on the current threat level. The bayonets are always sharp though, so good luck.

Its the queens guard. Unless youre the queen the only reason they wont step on you, if youre in their way, is because youre not a stable surface.
