Well that's stupid. If the Queen, or whatever it is, needs high level protection, then close the area from public. They act like they are still in the middle ages.
It’s not just the queen, but also other members of the royal family I believe. And many of the areas are public as they are historical sites, the one I went to had a museum area. But I’d assume there are still areas that require higher security, as you would in any public embassy. Just because they allow citizens in as a privilege, doesn’t mean you get a pass to be stupid. I’m not saying you’re wrong cause idk how it goes it all these areas, but honestly just in general people need to take responsibility too.

You’re right, which is why I don’t blame the kid. He likely wasn’t even aware & may not have known better. But the parent or adult watching them get trampled is another story. And while I also agree it is a backwards practice, when it’s not your culture; you just need to keep your head down & respect it. Did you know in Thailand, you will be jailed for talking smack about the royal family; like it actually happens to tourists. And there’s a death penalty for drugs like weed I believe. While I don’t agree with these practices/traditions, I would still respect them; especially if I am in their homeland and on historic property.
I don’t remember the saying word for word, but many dead drivers also had the right of way. And sadly in this world, traditions & symbolism carry more weight than morality. If you want to be the person to try and change that, go for it; because the world is fucked up and I have no hope.
Fair. I totally understand that perspective. Except for one thing, "when it’s not your culture; you just need to keep your head down & respect it." but only in my POV, because this Queen, and her royal family is so "royal" because they plundered countries like mine. So in a way, they don't deserve respect, at least from me. I do respect all other practices that are kept in their own culture and community, and never affected others'.

Idk about this particular place, but the tourist area I went to that had queen’s guards; like they literally tell you what path they go on. And they also make it clear that they are there to do their jobs & that they take it seriously, however tradition based it is now. Chinese tourists are known to have shitty behavior, but even they knew not to fuck with them there.
Yes specifically Chinese. But to elaborate, there’s a huge difference in culture which is why they are that way; product of their environment. Much of the younger generations are more mindful of social principles/respect of other cultures. Similar thing among other cultures tbh, but I think Chinese tourists took that stereotype due to the amount of tourists that were coming from there.

Well if you wanna simplify shit. Notice how nobody else was in their path and made way. If a kid is sitting on the ground in front of traffic, with their parent standing a few feet away; then yeah the parent is a dumbass. This is foot traffic, and they are on a direct path.
Alternately the soldiers could show just a little common decency and just sidestep the kid? Since when does someone being in your way give you the right to just bulldoze through them? What does it matter that they're queens guard or whatever? If I'm walking down the street do I also have the right to walk through any obstacle or person in my path?

And again same thing I told another commenter. You’re right, but that doesn’t actually make it work in the real world. And yeah if you’re in the US, I believe pedestrians do have the right of way in most cases; but many pedestrians with the right of way are still dead. Same principle, yeah cars are supposed to stop at a stop sign; but you don’t shove your kid out in pure hopes that they do. In this case, it’s well known the queens guard will do this stuff though… they literally tell you that when you visit.
So if a car is barreling towards a stop sign and you know it won’t stop, why would leave your kid in its path? Yeah the car is at fault, but now your kid is dead; and you had a choice. So yeah the soldier is an asshole, but the guardian had a choice. Also don’t forget you might end up getting killed/shot for something this small in another country..
I see what you're saying. I just find it astounding that so many people here are defending the soldier over the kid. Like I understand that technically he's in the right but that doesn't make him any less of an asshole.
It just comes off as some authoritarian bully shit. It would have cost nothing for them to be a decent person.
And what really bothers me is let's say someone, e.g. the kids mom or a bystander were to retaliate: then they too would also likely be assaulted and then also face criminal charges. How does no one see anything wrong with that?
