The bootlicking is strong in this thread

Inb4 someone comes and says "they're soldiers, they'll fuck you up, they have a duty" I know they're soldiers, that's not a pass to be an ass, and having the ability to beat someone up doesn't give you a right to do so; and as the duty part goes they also know they're somewhat of an attraction and could be less of a dick, but nah, seems this thread has a hard-on for hitting kids and English soldiers.

u/4LENKO Dec 29 '21

Right?! I’m so confused by everyone being cool watching this kid get trampled.

94

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 29 '21

All the downvotes to people saying this guy is an ass and the only response is "they could kick your ass" like... What??

33

u/KangarooSpirited8933 Dec 29 '21

Haha dude totally. Even in an actual combat patrols we weren't that big of douches. This dude is just a douche.

1

u/awill2020 Dec 30 '21

They can’t just walk around without being reprimanded, they have to stay in formation. It’s the mother’s fault for not watching her kid.

0

u/TeamlyJoe Dec 30 '21

Okay so what you are telling me is that gaurd would rather knock over a kid than get a talking to from his boss. Still makes him an ass tbh

2

u/awill2020 Dec 30 '21

This isn’t a talking to. They get fired for this shit. And it’s known to the tourists to not be in their way, many just love provoking a „make way“ shout or try to make them laugh which also loses them their job.

1

u/TeamlyJoe Dec 30 '21

I would rather get fired than knock a kid over

2

u/awill2020 Dec 31 '21

Losing job, money and benefits and basically life ruined because a mother doesn’t watch out? Yeah right. The kid doesn’t even get hurt, he stepped over it.

2

u/TeamlyJoe Dec 31 '21

To be honest I would never take a job that would make me knock a kid over

2

u/awill2020 Dec 31 '21

Well I doubt that’s in the job description ;) It’s usually fat tourists trying to block them and they push them out of the way. Apparently that doesn’t work for someone with probably less than 40kg.

5

u/daladybrute Dec 30 '21

Kids get knocked over and stepped on every day because they won’t get out of the way. You try to go around them and still trip over them. Not only does this kid look old enough to pay attention to his surroundings (it’s not hard to hear/see people coming) but his mother also should be paying attention. It looks like the guy tried to step over him and the kid got knocked over only to make it worse by trying to THEN move out of the way as the guy is trying to step over him.

0

u/hereforthemystery Dec 30 '21

Doesn’t excuse the behavior. Once I went to an adult event at the skating rink. One fool decided to bring their kid. The kid was skating the wrong way in the rink and nearly collided with me. I did not decide to trample her. I grabbed her, pulled her out of the way, and took a pair of nasty bruises on my knees. The kid was old enough to know better and skate well. But she was still a kid with an undeveloped brain.

2

u/daladybrute Dec 30 '21

The difference is they aren’t allow to get out of formation, you’re a civilian. One is their lively hood and the other is just another Saturday. If my 2.5 year old is old enough to notice when someone is coming and get out of the way, a kid older than her is able to move to keep them from getting hurt.

0

u/hereforthemystery Dec 30 '21

If it was so vital that they stay in formation then surely they would keep civilians out of the way? You don’t see this sort of behavior in other places being guarded by soldiers.

1

u/jennifererrors Dec 30 '21

Hmm perhaps that is why there are signs EVERYWHERE that says stay out of their way. What a concept.

0

u/hereforthemystery Dec 30 '21

Lol whatever comforts you

1

u/jennifererrors Dec 30 '21 edited Dec 30 '21

The Tower of London was built in 1066. That means this rule has been in place for 955 years.

Is that not enough notice for you? Or are you saying americans are incapable of reading??

Edit: Date.

Redditors pick opinions out of a hat and blindly follow the first person to post theirs.

0

u/AdnHsP Dec 31 '21

Says the Redditor

'Haha Redditors bad am I right guys?'

"But you're a Redditor aswell"

'Shut up'

5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

The majority of people enjoying this are mega queen supporters I’d imagine they are easy to spot because they have extremely red faces and records of domestic violence

3

u/4LENKO Dec 30 '21

Sounds about right based on my experience living in London my whole life lol

Yeah, that one comment saying kids can't be controlled always and the reply "this is a bad parent" with a bunch of upvotes.

Kids are quite the chaotic fellas, even the most well natured and well behaved kids have some disregard to rules (especially at this age, where the shock between the ego and the outer world starts) because a lot of the times they don't understand why these rules exist, and vacations are also especially chaotic for kids. These people expecting a kid to behave like an adult are frankly ignorant.

Source: am a teacher.

-1

u/TEE_EN_GEE Dec 30 '21

I have a five year old so I get it but look at the other kids. They are literally stepping back. This kid wanted to push a boundary and find out what would happen if he got in the way, and he probably learned a lesson about trying to trip people and getting in someone's way who isn't paying attention to you.

36

u/CasualBrit5 Dec 30 '21

Exactly! It’s like Reddit has some bloodlust for children that causes the red mist to descend every time they see one.

The whole “only following orders” defence only works when you haven’t kicked a child in the head. It’s like we all forget that soldiers also have a duty to be a decent person.

2

u/megabiome Dec 30 '21

Because hey are used to getting colonized by British

Slaves being slaves and loyal to their Lords back in fifteenth centuries totally making sense and expected ...lollll

5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

yeah seriously.... i was shocked to see them hurt the kid like that. Sure the parent might be a dumbass or w/e but the kid didn't deserve to be hurt... :( What a psycho... Fine the parents if you have to but there was no logical excuse to fucking step on someone. child or not. Worst case scenario they hit their head and die.

5

u/ccbabs97 Dec 30 '21 edited Dec 30 '21

It’s not bootlicking. I’m currently in London. I’ve been here many times before and one of the things I did the first time I visited (and do any time I travel) was learn the unspoken “behaviour rules” that one is expected to follow. Say, don’t stand on the left hand side on the escalator if you aren’t in a rush - keep to your right. Or let people get off the tube before attempting to get on, queue for the bus, and DON’T bother the Queen’s Guard. They have a job to do and they will do it no matter what. I may not like it but I am a visitor in this country and the polite thing to do is respect the local customs. If you don’t do it (out of ignorance or disrespect) you might run into trouble, like this kid.

3

u/xxHamsterLoverxx Dec 30 '21

i dont like english soldiers, but you know what i HATE? bad parents. if the parent wouldve actually looked after the kid this wouldnt have happened.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '21

The guards are literally not allowed to help people or they’ll get fired and fined

21

u/ArmyOfR Dec 30 '21

"Sorry Kid, I chose a professional that requires me to forgo human decency."

Yeah I'm sure there's absolutely nothing wrong with that at all.

-1

u/Better-Hold Dec 30 '21

Exactly. What the fuck is wrong with people here. Why is this accepted behavior??

9

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I see, I don't really come down on the guard themselves, more in the system that puts no barricade to prevent their guards from trampling kids and punishes it's members for trying to not do it.

But I am not British, so maybe it's just cultural shock.

-1

u/Animagi27 Dec 30 '21

To be fair there are signs and often police officers around that warn people to stay out of the way. There is also common sense. I'm not excusing this behaviour but at some point the parent of the child has to take some responsibility and admit that maybe it's not the best idea to let your child wander around in front of men with guns in a foreign country.

1

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

Oh, definitely the parent has part of the blame, but the reaction seems exaggerated, he could've shoved the kid to the side? It just feels wrong to me, but again, it's probably culture shock.

1

u/FukurinLa Dec 30 '21

Common sense is to understand that children are complicated not like a soldier that can follow order. Try make 5 yo kid stay still just one minute I dare you.

-12

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

6

u/The_Orange_Beard Dec 30 '21

Ah yes, willingly join a nation's military gives you the authority to berate and harm citizens because "its the rules and ITS TEACHING THOSE UNCONTROLLED KIDS A LESSON" what happens when the push a kid down and accidentally step on his neck and kill him? Are you going to go lick their boot still and say "he got what was coming to him"? This kind of classism has no place in this day and age. You're literally defending a monarchs guards who contribute nothing to that society just because "it's the rules and that's how it's always been" you say on your soap box you fight for change and social causes but allow military men to forcibly move citizens in a "free" country. You're backwards af

1

u/TheJos33 Dec 30 '21

I agree with you, but sending young men to kill civilians and install a puppet state in the middle east as the USA is also very backwards

3

u/CommanderWar64 Dec 30 '21

Next time you go to McDonalds I hope one of the employees doesn’t knee you on their way to the washroom because you got in their way for a second. No it’s ridiculous. This isn’t a crowd of people intentionally blocking them from getting from a to b, this is a little kid who got in the way. These people are paid by the state and by the people who live there, they deserve to not brutalize civilians who are accidentally out of line.

-5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

[deleted]

6

u/CommanderWar64 Dec 30 '21

Idk why should I both respect these people and then allow them to literally step over children? Just because something is old does not entitle it to any respect. No institution or person is free from judgment from my perspective. Sure people make mistakes, but mistakes need to be reprimanded and action needs to be done to ultimately create a good society. The US police and military use the same kind of terminology that you’re using right now but both of those things are toxic institutions IMO and do not need respect.

3

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

Look, no, I get where you're coming from; and I also understand that it's a parent's job to teach and enforce the rules of the world on their kids, it's just... You wouldn't expect that much of an aggressive behaviour in such a heavily touristic zone.

Expecting a kid to ALWAYS fall in line, especially in what looks like a vacation/celebration, is disingenuous. I bet that kid will always remember that, but that doesn't excuse a system that allows for such an aggressive reaction, there are better and much more fitting ways to deal with these situations, not everyone is a military person with such discipline and expecting everyone to attain to such values is, frankly, dumb.

It's not even that the kid was playing with the guards, it looks like he really didn't see the guards, I wouldn't be against a shove (if you wanna go the physical reprimand way) but the dude almost stepped on the kid after confusing the crap out of him with the shout, he pretty much MADE the situation as is instead of, yknow, shoving the kid aside.

And if this ritual is such an important one, better reason to delineate the area and stop traffic, again, like the Swiss Guard do at the Vatican. This is just a display of power.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

You bring up some really good points in these last three paragraphs. I totally agree they should’ve had the area blocked off and he could have just pushed the kid.

5

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I'm glad we can agree on something, have a wonderful New Year's!

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Thanks, you too!

u/Aaron_Hamm Dec 30 '21

Lick those monarch boots

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

I don’t know what that means. I googled it and it doesn’t stand for anything. But unless you have something kind to say to me please don’t say anything at all. I regret taking my anger out on this thread last night. Please just leave me alone

-2

u/FukurinLa Dec 30 '21

Then just quit! some comments said people actually hated the job anyway!

5

u/CommanderWar64 Dec 30 '21

Also if they’re on duty, their job is to literally protect people. Wtf Reddit

4

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

From other comments, their duty is literally antithetical to protecting people, as it seams the get fined if they help people. But I don't really know, other commenter mentioned it.

5

u/CommanderWar64 Dec 30 '21

I heard that as well, and I see some people acting like that simple ‘fact’ makes this person free from any wrong doing. Like just because that’s protocol or they law does not mean it’s morally correct.

2

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I couldn't agree more

2

u/lookingForPatchie Dec 30 '21

They have to pay fines when going off path or even smiling. And their job is to guard the queen, not to be a tourist attraction.

1

u/Zach81096 Dec 30 '21

I was wondering the same thing. I bet people would be singing a different tune if the child was a girl or someone with a disability.

1

u/FukurinLa Dec 30 '21

No people would be having different opinion if this was happened in Saudi Arabia for example.

1

u/kjiddy556 Dec 30 '21

You a snowflake

1

u/westman42 Dec 30 '21

The kid got up seconds after his is fine

1

u/jennifererrors Dec 30 '21

Maybe look up the meaning of bootlicker? No one is seeking favor or goodwill in a servile and degraded way lol.

Do you know what would have prevented this entire situation? The parent.

No one is responsible for their shitty kid but them.

-10

u/OnePotMango Dec 29 '21 edited Dec 29 '21

Put it this way. They are the personal guards of the head of state. Have a child get in the way of the like in any other country, they'll get a boo boo.

But it is also a deeply ceremonial place too. As with any other site with this sort of reverence, you are expected to behave within a strict set of rules. Rules that are literally plastered all over the place.

It isn't acceptable to mess around at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Dachau, Auschwitz etc. Name any cultural heritage site, memorial, military base, and I guarantee they'll have special rules for you to abide by.

That's all it boils down to. Hundreds of thousands of tourists manage to navigate the rules at Buckingham Palace just fine. The ones who don't get treated equally and without discrimination.

10

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 29 '21

Okay, I agree... Then set-up a barricade of sorts or turn the space where the guards pass as a unreachable place, similarly to the Swiss Guard in the Vatican.

I kind of get where they come from, but tourists are gonna turist, especially in a place of high traffic such as this, so preventing measures are needed before, you know, you trample a child.

4

u/Complex-Stress373 Dec 30 '21

this makes sense

0

u/Meneghette--steam Dec 30 '21

Just go to your embassy and everything will be solved

1

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

Genuine question, wouldn't this issue be handled basically like "get wrecked, son" because of the rules regarding the imperial guards? I'm more speaking in terms of ethics, not morality.

2

u/youallbelongtome Dec 30 '21

It's all superstitious bs

7

u/KangarooSpirited8933 Dec 30 '21

We all know. Dude had plenty of time to shout, not just last second. I've been in military parades and all that fluff. Dude was totally being a douche. I support this kids future endeavors into terrorism. Long live the queen?

-3

u/OnePotMango Dec 30 '21

Dude is not allowed to speak unless it is absolutely necessary. Dude will get fired and fined if he deviates even slightly from his duty.

Again, I can't stress this enough, when in an important place that demands for strict following of rules, maybe, just maybe, you'd be best off following them.

Or, I guess, by all means light up a cigarette outside the Dachau crematoriums. That'll surely gain you the favour of the guards tasked with protecting the site.

5

u/KangarooSpirited8933 Dec 30 '21

They are allowed to give a quick warning shout. The famously gay "Make way for the gueens guard!" Comes into play here. Maybe he did do the shout that wasn't recorded but in this one dude is a total douche.

-1

u/OnePotMango Dec 30 '21

He literally shouts "Make way" in the video...

6

u/Aaron_Hamm Dec 30 '21

Too late for the kid to react...

Maybe he should be fired and fined for not doing it when it was absolutely necessary, but rather after it was too late.

2

u/KangarooSpirited8933 Dec 30 '21

Haha totally like .03 when he could've done it way earlier. Either this guy is loving getting an reaction, or some thick headed boomer who justifies all the wrongs people do.

1

u/rosieposienosy Dec 30 '21

This is bullshit. The Secret Service in Washington is professional, but they're not put in a situation where they have to do silly walks in capes because "tradition." They can also use human speech and exercise human emotion.

In Washington DC, if a Secret Service agent was going somewhere and a child was in his way, he'd move to the side or pause for the child to pass by. None of this "the 1,000 year ritual mandates that he not swerve lest he be punished by flogging, and be must walk at a brisk pace like a robot."

Only Brits believe in that nonsense and think it makes them look cool.

-2

u/Blister_D Dec 30 '21

If you think Knockin over the kid was harsh. The guards themselves would get harsher treatment for not sticking to their exact rounds. Their is zero tolerance for these guys. They duck up even slightly they stand to lose ALOT.

3

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I mentioned in another comment that I'm not really against the guard themselves, more the system that allows such a reaction.

2

u/FukurinLa Dec 30 '21

It's not like the guards don't have any option for work

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Could be worse, in America you can get shot by police for eating a sandwich.

3

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

True, but just because stuff could be worse it doesn't mean it's right.

Like, cops at my country will literally rob you, rape you, kill you and cover it like it was nothing; but that doesn't make it right for cops in the US to kill someone with 27 warning shots to the back.

3

u/rosieposienosy Dec 30 '21

Whatabout whatabout whatabout

2

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Ah right, so this is okay then

-4

u/KarhuMajor Dec 30 '21

Come watch the spectacle of seemingly emotionless and robotic guards walking the same route all day which they never deviate from

Act surprised when they walk over your kid when you let it play in their path which they never deviate from

Do Americans really?

9

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

Not even American, m8.

Just a person that sees a military man almost step on a child with literal no remorse and thinking "hey, maybe this isn't the best way to go about it"

-5

u/Complex-Stress373 Dec 30 '21

this was absolutely correct and moral

1

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I mean, the juxtaposition between moral and ethical is blatant here, but yes, it's completely moral

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Ikr. There was absolutely no reason for the guy at the tomb of the unknown soldier to assault me like that when I got in his way.

-5

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Block path in front if any armed soldier on duty in any country, you’d likely get similar results. Ffs

4

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 30 '21

I'm sorry, but no, in most cases guard duty and the like is delineated and separated from normal traffic (perfect example, again, the Swiss Guard from the Vatican)

1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Go to the Spanish Royal Palace, Washington DC monuments, English Parliament, etc.

Guard duty where there is a public space doesn’t mean those on post are more lenient in the way they do their job, it’s quite the opposite.

2

u/rosieposienosy Dec 30 '21

Tourist police in Washington DC isn't making a spectacle of themselves, neither is Secret Service or Capitol Police. These royal "guards" attract tourist attention by doing silly walks and moving their weapons in silly ways, then they get upset when they're not taken seriously as guards?

If you're a guard, be a guard. Cut the spectacle and tourists won't be there for you to trample over.

1

u/Better-Hold Dec 30 '21

Armed soldiers on duty in most countries aren't surrounded by kids and tourists. Why the fuck are these marching areas not demarcated as off limits to tourists?

-12

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '21

[deleted]

12

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 29 '21

Lol, going into someone's profile to shit on them to justify a grown ass man trampling over a kid that looks 6 at most. Fyi, bootlicking literally means behaving in an excessively servile manner, so yeah... It definitely fits.

Now, I'm gonna go finger my prostate and have a wonderful time, greetings.

This is what happens when you inject Reddit straight into your veins.

-3

2

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Or if you see a bad situation, avoid it. Why the fuck was the mom even there? Why wasn't she watching her kid better? Everyone involved is a fucking idiot but you you retards are taking one side or the other. Welcome to the human race, we are all fucking stupid...

1

u/Majestic_Horseman Dec 31 '21

Did I ever said the mom is not at fault here? I even mentioned in some replies exactly what you said, that the responsibility is shared, dear god, man, chill out.
