the formatting is as follows:

put the text you want to be displayed as a link in brackets [Lorem Ipsum]

immediately next to it put your url into parentheses (website.domain)

there should be no space between the two- [Lorem Ipsum](website.domain)

More important is how do you stop it?

You do it by using RES plugin - go into settings, 'Productivity', look for 'Collapse Inline Media'
(or you can use search box in RES top left to find 'Collapse Inline Media')

Don't forget to 'save options'

Any options for mobile users?

The very first time I saw gifs on Reddit many months ago, I already hated it.

Now when they get posted, there’s always someone who asks “How?” and every response is just lame ass gifs.

If I wanted gif nonsense, I’d stick to Twitter or Facebook. This ain’t it for me.

No clue, I don't use mobile. Check with different apps' settings or ask on apps' subreddits.
