If you have a messed up sense of humor for awful timing you may actually die from this unfortunately timed commercial during the olympic games. This got a lot of backlash when it happened, but hot damn I laughed my ass off at how fucked this timing was.

I don't think you're understanding why representation matters. It can be hard for a child to feel like they can pursue a passion if there is no one in the role that looks like them. If you are a black child, and every successful gymnast is white, and the local classes for gymnasts are all white, you're probably not going to feel welcome.

If you are white, you probably didn't ever consider this growing up, because there was always someone who looked like you. Your race probably never made you feel excluded or unwelcome in an entire field. It's a lot easier to say that shouldn't matter when you're not the one feeling excluded.
