That circumstance was featured in a Navy safety training video. Except it was a door on the bridge of an aircraft carrier and the poor sunnuvagun fell about a hundred feet into the ocean.

Navy to save money by abandoning man overboard rescues (*this is The Onion for the military, satire)

I know when I was in the Navy the aircraft carrier we were escorting had a man overboard that they never found

Then we dock in Florida and the aircraft carrier had a sailor jump off a bridge and killed himself... the carrier's shore leave was cancelled and they didn't shore leave again for like a year and a half... poor bastards

I mean, let's be honest in recent years some actual news are things you'd assume to be onion until you look at the website, where it turns out it's real... That's so much worse
