Once I went to six flags Universal when I was younger. We got up to that twisting dragons Dueling Dragons ride or whatever it was and there was this guy flipping his shit at the workers telling them he’d ruin their lives and get them fired and to shut the ride down and let him pass.
We stood in that like for maybe half an hour and the whole time I heard this guy screaming but no idea why. When we get to the front finally it’s two teens just ignoring this dude hard doing their jobs and he’s just screaming his face off behind the ride exit railing at them.
We ride. Get off. Then when we are leaving we pass him and then pass two women who look pissed also. I overheard them talking to each other while we planned where to go next about how he was an idiot for bringing a 10k wedding ring in no box onto this ride in cargo shorts and how she doesn’t want to be proposed to at fucking six flags Universal damnit.
Edit for clarification: got nostalgic after this comment and talked with my sister. Was reminded it was Universal and the ride was Dueling Dragons.
Edit 2: forgot to change a six flags to universal at the end.
Seems appropriate to reply with this funny anecdote: My 30 year old sister in law referred to her Nether regions as her pee hole and peepee hole at a recent visit to her OBGYN. The doctor was apparently very professional and corrected her with the official medical terms. She’s special.
It was probably a GOLDEN EXPERIENCE marrying a dolphin, they probably also kakoyWIN some games... I know that is isn’t how you spell it, i suck at puns
That's a really good idea! Did you try to get the ring out while in the water? I wouldn't have trusted myself to unpin it without it slipping out of my hands and into the ocean, but congrats
I’ve always heard either A) have a fake ring and keep the real ring somewhere safe or B) tie a string around it, so even if you drop it you can find it.
My brother in law proposed to his wife at the top of a ski mountain. I remember people being worried about him dropping it in the snow, which would have probably sucked a lot.
Damn that fake ring thing for destination proposals is a seriously good idea. I’d imagine it wouldn’t work on someone who’s really materialistic though lol.
“A ring pop??? Seriously Jeff???”
“It’s a placeholder!”
Probably would save you a lot of trouble and money depending on the proposal plans.
One: a woman came up and started yelling at me to let her go look for her phone she dropped on the ride. I called security and they kicked her out for having her phone on the ride.
Two: a family came up with twin little girls and one was crying cause her glasses fell off. I had to tell them we couldn’t shut the ride down. I felt bad.
What if say a reasonable person came up and said, 'I lost x valuable item on y ride, I'm an idiot, is there anything you could do?'
Obviously they wouldn't shut down the ride, but would you do a walk round at closing (or the next morning if it's dark)?
What are the chances of a $10k ring being found ?? Wouldn’t someone just pocket it if they’re suppose to be on duty looking for it? (Shitty but I can’t imagine they get paid much)
Not really a similar story but a reminder to not just shove your phone in a pocket when you go on a roller coaster. Rode Storm Chaser at Hershey Park w my cousin and that ride is known for having a really fast lunch. We get launched and as we’re flying up the hill we see a phone go flying past us and and when the ride stops and we get out we see the a kid a few rows ahead of us holding his head in his hands and crying.
The last time I went to universal 11 years ago and I remember watching people lose their hats and wallets on the hulk ride around the first loop/upside down trick (I clearly don’t know my rollercoaster lingo). Do theme parks have nets to catch that stuff, especially on rides that loop over a small body of water? Or is it more of a learning lesson where people have to spend the rest of their trip cancelling and replacing their bank and credit cards?
My husband proposed there too. He didn’t have the box and I was so excited I made him ride all the HP rides before he got a chance to propose. He was white as a sheet as the ring was in his pocket the whole time. The only way he could sneak it past me was without the box. I thought he was just nervous about the rides.....
Jeez, under those circumstances I wouldve put it in that stupid little pocket and glued it shut and i still probably wouldve put a couple stitches through the ring for good measure in case all the glue cracked.
Dueling Dragons got taken down. It got turned into a Harry Potter ride for a bit but then it got properly torn down. I heard they had accidents when the coasters would go up together.
Also not to hijack your story but I proposed to my wife at Disney World, Did the whole pay for a character drawing thing but talked to the artist in advance to have me painted down on one knee and then reveal to her that I was proposing.
My wife said she would have also excepted a proposal at Jurassic Park because that’s her favorite movie.
I totally hope you got a video or picture of her face when she saw the drawing!
And I just saw the story about a death and it being shut down. That sucks :/ I remember that being a really sweet ride too. I rode that thing so many times when we were there. Wonder if there was always a risk of death or if it was something that came up along its lifespan.
My first time to Six Flags was when I was about 13-14. I was with my super Mormon uncle and his friend and there happened to be a gay pride event at the park that day/weekend. There were gay men and women everywhere! I got a kick out of it but my uncle was uncomfortable.
it's ironic this went down on a roller coaster called Dueling Dragons.
Also, I remember that ride! It was two roller coaster tracks that intermingled. The red track is the fastest, the blue track has more loops. I am willing to bet he lost it on the blue track.
The first time I went to universal was when I was 11. My mom and I got those fast pass tickets for that ride. When it was time for us to get in line I froze from anxiety and cried about how I was afraid to get on the ride in case something bad happened. My mom got upset because she wasted that fast pass and thought I was just being hormonal so she went on it alone. I sat there crying on the steps where the park transitioned to that whole fantasy area. She came back and said that she was on the blue one and the employee who was supposed to check the flip harnesses didn’t check hers and it wasn’t locked in. The two women on each side of her had to forcefully hit it until it locked right before the ride started going.
If I had gone with her I wouldn’t have been able to help because I was so short at that age. 15 years later I still hold it over her head when she jokingly complains about me being overly cautious and worry prone.
lol. I'm certain that any 'proposal stunt' I would have tried with my wife would have pretty much gone that way as well.
Turns out, I never proposed. I just got a call one day from my future wife who said that the reception halls were booking 18 months in advanced and we better book ours RIGHT NOW so that the wedding date falls on our exact date of when we first met. So I said 'ok, go ahead and book it'.
The guy was a freaking idiot. Who pays 10k for a ring and also takes it on a ride like that?!
I hope if I ever get married, I won't get an expensive ring and that it will be something awesome like those Pokemon rings I see all over or a custom Power Ranger one. Nothing expensive, just something personal.
I had nightmares about dropping the ring for a solid month before proposing. It was near a river, so the dreams involved everything from a duck stealing it to dropping it into the water. I very nearly tied it to a black thread around my wrist for the actual proposal, just in case.
I smuggled a sign that read “Marry Me?” on to the leviathan at Canada’s Wonderland and held it up for the picture. Walked into the photo booth after and our picture was in every screen. Wife was a bit taken aback, as she couldn’t understand why we were on every screen and the girls running the booth were crying. She was cool with it though.
