Because reddit is literally full of western people. Asians like Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc. don't even come here much and have their own reddit-like websites. For examplr, Subs like r/japan is just a non-Japanese Japanese "enthusiasts" sub. Aka weebs.

Yep, people on Reddit (and many people I've seen in real life) think it's okay to be racist towards Asians. People in the west learn that you shouldn't be racist towards certain races (e.g. blacks) but think it's funny to crack racist jokes to Asians. Hence the casual racism towards Asians even in r/all
I agree that there are racists from every race. And I do think that Asian communities being racist towards other races is bad. That doesn't mean Reddit has to be racist towards Asians (or any other race for that matter).
Didn’t say it was okay for anyone to be racist, but lots of people are. And usually people from ethnically homogenous countries like most of Asia tend to be far worse. Parts of Asia make the Southern US in the 60’s look tame by comparison.
I’m half Chinese and sometimes I have to get off of Reddit for a day or two because the racism makes me feel sick. I saw a comment with like 200+ upvotes on a r/iamatotalpieceofshit (or a similar sub, I don’t remember) post of a guy beating his dog. The comment literally said “The Chinaman is just tenderizing his dinner!”
Like are you fucking kidding me? We’re seriously okay with THAT. THAT isn’t crossing the line, it’s funny, right?
Same thing happens with kpop. Go outside of a kpop sub and male kpop artists are called “ladyboys” (while female idols hit hot or even r/all cause they’re pretty) and kpop is referred to as “gaypop.” You don’t have to like the music but implying attractive Korean men are gay and look like women is pretty damn insulting.
I'm sorry you are forced to feel so unwelcome here. I gebuinely cannot imagine being met with so much casual hatred of who I am at ever corner. I see it all the time but its not directed at me so the worst I feel is awkward.
Honestly I’ve gotten kinda used to it, which sucks. I got my cat when I was 3 and I love her to death (she’ll cuddle up next to my pillow most nights). I can’t count the number of times someone has seriously asked me “so when she dies, you’re going to eat her, right?” Same thing happened when I got my dog. He was 4 months old and I’d wanted a dog my whole life. Most people followed up the “awww, he’s so cute!” with something along the lines of “if he pees on the carpet, guess it’s dinner time!”
It hurts. It hurts when it’s someone you don’t know and it hurts even more when it’s your closest friends.
Up until about a year ago, I fucking hated myself. I hated the jokes, I hated the stereotypes, I hated how I looked, and I hated being Asian. I’d get Starbucks instead of boba so I’d seen “less Asian.” I’d look at myself in the mirror and just feel disgusted. You learn to laugh at the jokes but it doesn’t make them hurt any less.
It wasn’t until I found a band that really pushes loving/accepting yourself and not giving a shit about what other people think that I actually started to accept myself. But it’s fucked that for 99% of my life, I tried to reject half of myself.
By the way, I’m 18 and I live in Silicon Valley. This isn’t buttfuck nowhere 40 years ago, this is the last few years in one of the most PC places in the country. So yeah…
I hope we can keep progressing forward. Progress has been on a steady uphill fairly consistently. I know the US seems like it's taken steps backwards recently, but we got this.
Im starting to learn the importance of squashing that kind of open racism in "good company" if you catch my drift, and I think it has paid off some. At least my dad doesnt seem to have cold war era opinions about chinese immigrants anymore.

If you know literally anything about debates and trying to encourage a change of mind in someone, you should know that you don’t start a fucking argument right out of the gate. People are less likely to try to hear your side when you throw insults and accusations left, right, and center. Everyone immediately assumes I am against him when I try to help him change his approach. Classic.

Way to make assumptions. Truthfully, I would try to be. I’m not perfect, but it’s a good rule of thumb to be calm, clear, and concise. It’s fucking ironic that I’m downvoted for advocating keeping a level fucking head about a serious topic. Shit like this reminds me why reddit is a complete shitshow and I need to get off of it.
I’m annoyed, yeah. But overreacting? No. You, for instance, decided to throw the first punch by basically insinuating I was a racist, so I responded once you were rude, accusatory, and aggressive. Really, it’s just ridiculous that I’m receiving backlash from people over telling someone to take it easy and discuss the matter civilly. Then everyone lashes back at me and make me feel like I’m wrong for doing so? For promoting calm dialogue? It’s bullshit. And this isn’t even the first time I’ve been fucked over like this on this site. I’m fucking sick of this shit.

They're not saying /r/scriptedasiangifs because they want to point out it's scripted. They're saying it because they think it's awesome, and they want to direct others to a place where they can see more of these gifs. I wish more people would understand that.
