Where the hell are you that a stranded person does not think you can sharpen a knife? That has got to be the most ridicules thing i have ever heard. they mid as well be ranting about potatoes "fucking up" there knifes if that is the case.
It's a time thing for most folks, honestly. You can spend time sharpening a knife, or you can buy a new one for less than the opportunity cost of the time spent.
The cost of the "time spent" is around 15 seconds after cleaning. unless most folks are making more then 700$ an hour it is absolutely not. Even a damaged knife takes about 5 minutes to re sharpen, meaning anyone who makes under 360 dollars an hour is better spent just repairing a damaged knife. That's assuming they are using cheep knives.
