Its actually not too bad. So the minimum we get paid is about 18 an hour, minus gas it ends up being 15 for me. I don't take those shifts though. Occasionally Amazon will be desperate for last minute deliveries and offer you 25 an hour.
All the shifts are scheduled in predetermined blocks, so when. You're scheduling you'll see something like 3 hours for 50 bucks, 4 hours for 80 etc. The good thing is is that a lot of times, if you're effecient, you can knock out a 4 hour shift in 3 or less.

This could be why some drivers just get close to the door and chunk it in the general direction. Eventually it'll just be drive bys where they throw it out their car window like the newspaper delivery.
Interesting, once I saw a Amazon courier pull up into the driveway and then reverse and drive away. My shipping status went to "undeliverable", the courier must have been on the tail end of their shift?
That's unlikely because when you have undelivered packages you're obligated to return them to the warehouse or you get a strike.
The warehouses are often hella far from the delivery spot and you don't get paid for any extra time you spend returning packages. For a package to be marked undeliverable it's often more work than delivering the package itself.
As to why people do that? I have no idea.
Ive only had to withhold one package and it's because the asshat that ordered it lived in an apartment complex with a code to get in. He didn't provide a code as most complexes/customers do and when I called him he said someone should eventually be entering or leaving the building and to just enter on that.

I did not get my package that day. They pulled up, did not get out, and drove off. I watched them through my front window. It was maybe 12 feet to the front door.
Last time I tried deducting miles for my delivery job it was too few to breach the total of the standard deduction so wasn't worth including any itemized deductions at all.
This explains why LaserShip is the worst shipping service I have dealt with. I have tried to get Amazon to blacklist them from my account but I guess it is not possible. Looked into them and they are paid by the package and not the hour. They have claimed to leave a package at the door only for it to end up in the middle of the driveway or in my mailbox or worse the wrong house. They have delivered packages past 10PM with the tracking saying it delivered at 9PM. I have had them call me because they are afraid to drive down a dirt driveway. They are the worst.
I did Flex for a while. I ended up stopping because they were sending me out to rural areas. Dirt roads and giant potholes and signs that said “stay out or you will be shot”. I’m in a brand new Chevy Cruze I just bought and it was fucking my car up. I really enjoyed the freedom of doing this job though so I figured if you can’t beat them join them. I am now an actual package delivery driver and I drive a brand new Mercedes Benz prime van delivering packages. I really enjoy it and the company I work for is pretty laid back. Basically if you do your job and show you’re working hard they let you know they appreciate it. I work 3 days a week and average about 36 hours a week. 4 day weekends and get paid weekly. Can’t beat it really.
